RE: World Religions - A Survey
What if, when we stand before God, he looks at us all and says, "You were all wrong"? Smile

Faith in "I Am the way, the truth and the life, and aint nobody going to the Father except through Jesus."

I am who I am. The rest is your problem.

i don't know. somewhere between 2 and 3. it depends on what you mean by "valid."

What if, when we stand before God, s/he does just that, but then adds, "but I still love you anyway. Welcome home." Smile

I'm pretty sure we've all been wrong about some part of our theology at some point. It's a good thing God's bigger than our petty differences.

You don't have enough options to cover all views. "All religions and belief systems are equally invalid" is closer to how I might think, but that is perhaps being overly harsh.

How about "Most religions and belief systems contain insights into human nature and are effective ways of molding society, but are all equally invalid when they try to describe anything else" ?

I think that out of the choices given, I'd choose option 3 (I can't vote because I'm on the mobile site). I believe that there is a definite God, and nearly all religions are an effort to know him. I think God would accept all those who make an effort to serve who they think he is, and not send them to Hell just because they weren't in the right religion.

I'm not keen on the options as stated either. Anyone who has faith in Christ is forgiven. I can't really go for 1 though because I'd include Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, Coptic, Roman Catholic, and etc, believers. I'm making a distinction on the "believers" part. E.g not trusting in any kind of works for a "weighed in the balances" kind of deal.

Definitely not three, despite a well placed concern for lost souls who practice other religions, Jesus Himself was very exclusive. Either "no man comes to the Father except through him" or not. It's not logically possible to believe that he said this and disagree with him and believe he's the perfect God-man (and thus be a Christian). If other paths are valid then Christianity is not.

That's how I feel as well.

Unfortunately, the polling system on this forum wants my options to be concise, and I couldn't really adequately explain any of the options while also being concise. I do appreciate, though, that everyone is discussing and explaining what they do believe even if the poll doesn't have their preferred option. Smile

I'm pretty sure we've all been wrong about some part of our theology at some point. It's a good thing God's bigger than our petty differences.

I used to tell my Bible students that I was convinced that God would tell us all that there were some things none of us got.

You're right. God will say, "Welcome home. It doesn't make any difference. I love you."
