So, hearing former HACers have fun with what it was really like, is fun to read.

I'm over there now, enjoying their reminiscences.

RE: You know you're a HACer if...
I've only had one encounter with a HACKER. He was a Hispanic pastor with a degree in pastoral studies I guess and he was visiting our church to preach for money to go to France to reach the Jews. What struck me as odd was that his wife was a Caucasian from Indiana who met him while also attending HAC. Apparently they got married during senior so my guess is interracial dating is acceptable at HAC? This was about three years BTW.

Ignore the haters. They are not your audience.

I also sang in one of the girl's wedding which was held on a Monday night on the campus. Huh It was strange because they had me sing a CCM song and the rest of the music was soft rock. I didn't realize they were allowed to listen to that stuff, much less on campus.

The weirdest thing EVER, was when the girls invited me over to some special event. I lived in the Chicago suburbs. The event was to start at around 6pm on a Friday. Let me say, you haven't lived until you've have tried to take an interstate headed towards Indiana at evening rush hour during the construction season in Chicago. What should have taken 45 minutes took nearly 2 hours. UGH. Anyhoo, I arrive on campus and am immediately greeted by two men who want to know why I am there. I tell them I am there to see my friends and join them for the activity. They ask the girl's names and then call them down to meet me.

While we wait they fill out some paperwork on my "visit". First they ask if I am married, and I reply that I am single. Then they ask where I live. When I tell them, they pull out a map with a large circle, the center dot being HAC. They regretfully inform me that everything inside the circle is within 100 miles of campus and since my home is within that circle, I am not considered a visitor. I laugh and say, that's okay with me, not realizing what this actually means. They are no longer smiling at me and inform me that without the "visitor" status I must leave campus, right now, and that only "single" women who live more than 100 miles away are allowed as "visitors" to the campus. Nevermind that it took me two hours in the Chicago rush hour to arrive!!! Angry

At this point, my friends show up and the one begins crying when I tell her I have to leave. She begs them to reconsider and even complains that it is not fair. She begins to make a scene. She asks them why it matters if I am single or not and they mumbled something about me being a bad influence as a single women on their men. I really don't remember exactly what they said, it was so absurd and didn't even make sense. The men inform me at this point if I do not leave they will call the police on me for trespassing. I agree to leave and very nicely tell my friend it is okay and not to worry about it, that I will go home. And so I did. Turned around and drove straight home...thank God it was now past rush hour and I got back home in around 45 minutes! That was nearly 25 years ago so I am not sure if they still have this nutty rule but I'll never forget that day!

That is just an example of the CONTROL FREAK rules at that place. Its worse than the military.

IN my opinion, they are the worst CULT among those who call themselves Christians. And here is why. Because among fundamentalists, they are kind of accepted with a wink and a nod and "Oh, they're just the Hyles people, a little weird, but they're fundamentalists." But the truth is, they hold the traditions of men above the commandments of God.

Jesus spoke directly about them in Mark 7:6-8. I believe that a good interpretation today would be the Hyles Anderson people.

And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written,
“‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;
in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”

Yes, apparently interracial dating is not an issue there. All three of the guys I knew who went there were white, but 2 married latinas and 1 an asian girl. It seems as though there are a lot of first generation immigrants who get sucked in to the madness.

I don't know the school's policy, and I can't cite any examples, (I've known only an handful of HAC students personally) but I strongly suspect if they had wanted to marry African-American girls, the school would not have been pleased.

as of Fall 2008 (when I visited), yes, they still have that rule.

interracial dating is just fine as long as none of the combinations are black/white (if a person is a black/white mix, they much choose which race they will date when they start college and may not date the other race at all.)
