I'm also surprised so many people at BJU deny evolution. Every week, every dorm meeting, every chapel lecture the rule monster evolves based on the tightness of the knot in someone's shorts that day. It was especially frustrating as a town students, when some snot-nosed, self-important APC/PC would chase you down in the hallway of the Alumni building to yell at you about some unknown-to-you rule, and say "Weren't you in dorm meeting last night?!" After the same girl did that to me a couple times, I was like "I have told you before, I am a town student. Town students don't go to dorm meetings. How do you expect me to know about something that's said in a meeting I'm not supposed to be in?" It's not hard for me to have sympathy for Chris. It's entirely possible to go there 4 or 6 years and not know all the rules. It's also entirely possible to do your best to keep the rules, and think you're doing that, and have forgotten one, two, or 10, just because of the sheer number of rules. Their stupid rules trump common sense, manners and safety rules. It is 7PM, of course a gentleman would want to escort his girlfriend on a dark college campus. Why would he want her to walk alone? |

I never thought of it that way before. I wonder what kind of evil must occur to some poor soul before anyone in charge realizes that. Heh, I'm a dormie and I never knew the after-7pm rule. |

RE: Christopher Peterman Expelled from BJU
Oh, Presbygirl! Being a dorm student, I knew the rule about not walking together after 7:00. It was INCREDIBLY STUPID! I HATED it! It was humiliating and unreasonable. I could be at the athletic field watching a game with my boyfriend, but if we wanted to walk to the snack shop - under a covered, lighted walkway nearly all the way - we couldn't walk together. Either I walked in front with the knowledge that he was walking behind me probably eyeing me all the way or I had to follow HIM which made me feel like those pathetic women in other countries who aren't considered 'good enough' to walk beside men.
They always used to say there was a reason for their rules. I can't imagine one for this, unless there was some ancient board member who remembered some imaginary Southern past when no woman ever saw a man after dark unchaperoned. Who knows. All I know is that it was 1990 and it was ridiculous. Sometimes I think the real purpose behind THAT rule was just to break our spirits. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

They are not trying to break your spirit - they are trying to break your will. They read about the distinction between the two in a book about toddlers and decided it would work great for adult college students. Look who made top story on CNN U.S. News. And the story focuses on the abuse activism rather than Glee.

If guys and girls walk together after dark, a large percentage of them will kiss in the shadows. I would say WHO CARES... but you are dealing with Fundamentalists with crazy hangups about this stuff. |

I posted that link on my FB with a little fear and trepidation. But I posted it. I don't mind someone posting an opinion that disagrees, but I'm waiting to see if I get blasted.

And we all know that kissing always leads to necking and then heavy petting, then oral sex, then intercourse, then unprotected intercourse, and eventually babies out of wedlock. (Fundy terms) This all comes from the well-known Fundy principle that once you take the first step, the next time you see each other, you will start where you left off. And there is not one single college age man or woman who can stay of of bed without the rule about not walking a girl home after 7. |
