A lot of the people here have not only come from fundyism..they have come from fundamentalist cult like abuse of all kinds. That's why we tend to err on the side of niceness. I'm sure most of them will toughen up over time but until then we do tend to walk on eggshells.

So, there are two options: 1. Assume Techmedic is a moron and win (?) points by pointing it out, or 2. look for the better understanding that would add to our conversation.

I never said he was a moron. I said that he's ignorant of and uneducated about non-theism if he thinks atheists are "satanists". It makes as much sense as saying that christians worship the easter bunny. Since this thread is centered on non-theism i felt it relevant to point that out. I do not believe there is a god who can speak to people telepathically, but if there was i would hope that he'd mercifully elect to speak to the more intelectually gifted of his creation. Would seem rather a waste of time otherwise

That is your prerogative. My experience has been that the stupider you are the easier God speaks to you. EDIT: That IMHO was the point of becoming like children.

Have you met anyone with Down Syndrome? (Which I would like to redefine as "UP" syndrome.) I have found more flashes of God in those individuals than in the most brilliant university professors I know.

IMHO, God is not about intellect.

Well you certainly were doing your best to make it sound like i *was* . But neither of us think he's a moron, good, glad we've cleared that up.

Actually, if you'll look back to the original comment i made you'll see that i *asked*. So far he has chosen not to clarify (or hasnt been able to), which is perfectly ok as thats his choice. This is, however, a very common and offensive misrepresentation of atheism. And its laughably absurd.

As for the final point, i i really have no further comment.

I told techmedic that he should've edited his post more...lol. I had a conversation with him last night and pointed out all the things that were "off" about it to him already. In real life, techmedic is a very non-judgemental guy (yes, I've met him) who never purposely tries to stir things up or offend anybody. IMO, he was just interjecting himself into my situation a bit and used the poor wording from a different person to do it.

Please don't harp on him; it's just a missunderstanding.

Sure. When push comes to shove, Religion is all about surrender. (I surrender all?) That is what Buddhism is about also: Life's a beach and then you die. I understand the word "Islam" also means surrender.

Part of what I firmly believe is the strength of the AA movement is the emphasis on surrender. As long as we continue to believe that we can save ourselves, we are doomed.

Some of us love to go into endless conversations about theology, about how many angels fit on the point of a needle, about the Greek and Hebrew roots, and on and on.

When it is all said and done, we are left with a decision: try to control everything ourselves, or give up control.
