RE: True Christianity
(04-12-2012 04:50 PM)Mommy2Kids Wrote: Awhile back I mentioned to our new pastor the idea of a church food pantry for members who are in need, but too proud to ask for help. Our last (SBC) church had done something like this, and it was GREAT. He told me he would rather start a resource table with literature that would help Christians grow. This is the sort of attitude that I saw and heard around me growing up. Matthew 25:31-46 really convicted my husband. We stopped thinking that it has to be an either/or proposition. We can tell the Gospel AND help people's physical needs. Of course, for that, we're labeled and denigrated by our fundy acquaintances, which hurt at first, but I'm growing tougher! And I am SOOOO sorry to hear of such a cold-hearted response to your family when you suffered loss and were in need. It's so ironic that the fundies warned us a LOT about knowing about Jesus in your head but not knowing Him in your heart, when they themselves so often seem to have lots of head-knowledge but little actual ACTION that demonstrates love. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |
