What amazed me last night was how much scripture was spoken, but how little of it was actually exposited (if any).

It was Goetsch last night.

Same basic Youth Conference message, just using new Scriptures that are not actually applicable to the student's college/life choice. I have heard it so many times.

Based on past experience, I can imagine how the whole thing will go down:

That bowl over there might seem like a good idea (let's say secular college or military), but is that God's best or are you just settling for something that is merely good for this moment?

Or are you going to take the bowl of surrender, which is God's perfect will for your life? God's best. Surrender your first year of college to God and let Him work in you. Go 4 years - make a real difference - have a life that is set apart, the best life God offers. Why would you settle for less than God's best?

Sigh

Cliche after cliche

I have seen kids who had secular college and career plans in place get derailed by their manipulation. Can you imagine turning down a secular college scholarship for an unaccredited Fundy U?

I might try listening tonight, but the twitching is gonna be bad.
When I first got saved, I was at Penn State University in my Junior yr. I went to a fundy church and they harped and harped on Bible college.

So, I went to my Penn State Campus Pastor, who was nondenominational, and asked him if I should leave Penn State and go to Bible College. He said I should finish PSU and then work a few years and pay off my debt then pray about it. I was glad he was balanced. But later I stupidly got into a Fundy church. the rest is history.

I remember hearing Goetsch when I was a kid. I was impressed by his ability to quote scripture, but I could not remember one significant thing that he said. Also that was before his sharp turn into radical fundyland. Didn't he used to be affiliated with Maranatha, or at least was there all the time I think, he's from that area if I recall, but haven't heard of him in those circles for years, since he went out west to the land of the fruits and nuts of KJVOism.

He was born and raised in Watertown, WI where Maranatha is. And he went to school there.

On a lighter side: Everytime I see WCBC, I think White Castle Baptist Church. Is the building white?

God has been faithful and loving me for over 18000 days. I think that He will be faithful and loving to me today.

I prefer to call them Weaker Christian Brother College, since practically everything offends them.

I never attended, though I think when I was a youth we were encouraged to go or we talked about getting a group of us out there. As I understood it as a fundy, it was conference for youth to meet fellow like-minded Christian teens in the faith, listen to preaching to build up your spiritual lives, and have fun. WCBC was considered a very model college, so anything they did that you attended was a bonus to your spiritual life and standing in the church. Kind of like a spiritual retreat, except that, being WCBC it was likely very structured.
