For a group that is so hateful toward anyone an a Pentacostal or Charismatic church, I've always found this extremely odd behavior.

And it's also interesting that the church leadership always (well, often, anyway) pushes them to analyze their feelings and impressions after an emotional appeal, lots of music, etc. Somehow it's no good to analyze their feelings after, say, a long day of work on a Tuesday. Or while they're in the bathroom. Or find what their impressions are when awoken in the middle of the night with a phone call. Apparently the Holy Spirit only gives impressions at just the right moment...

I totally agree with this.

In the weeks before our annual building banquets, we were instructed to pray about our offering - but not to make a decision until after David Gibbs' (emotionally charged) "preaching" on banquet night.

Looking back, I believe it was highly manipulative.

Extra-biblical. Not necessarily evil. It doesn't have to be the massive guilt trip in the congregation it often is in fundy churches.

RE: Is Faith Promise Biblical?
We did a whole month of Sundays on Faith Promise/Missions Giving. I was struggling to give a "tithe" already from my "gross" income, "Bless God Ya better pay God before the Govt" and trying to raise a family. In addition I was having a hard time justifying their teaching on tithing from the scripture, so when October (missions month) rolled around, I just wasnt' ready for four more Sundays of pleading/guilt for more money over and above my tithe, especially on such flimsy scripture.

The good news is that Christ died for all of you........not just some of you!

Faith Promise

“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”
2 Corinthians 9:7–8

What is Faith Promise?

It is Scriptural. (2 Corinthians 8:12, 9:7–8)
It is an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to administrate the program through the individual giver.
It involves every member.
It is an act of faith. (Hebrews 11:6)
It sets a goal for the donor.
It is an organized approach to missionary giving.
It is local church centered.
Faith Promise is not:

It is not a pledge. (Ecclesiastes 5:4–5)
It is not something someone will come to collect. (2 Corinthians 8:12)
It is not determined on the basis of what you know you can give.
It is not taking from your present tithes and offerings to your church in order to give.
How Faith Promise Works:

It works by faith. Each member contributes a certain amount which God leads them to promise on a weekly basis to the missionary program of their church.
It works when it is in addition to their regular church giving.
It works when the promise is made between the between the giver and God.
Faith Promise Committment Card

World Wide New Testament Baptist Missions has created a faith promise committment card for use in local churches. This can be downloaded and printed in duplex, then folded in fourths. To request printed copies for church use, contact info@wwntbm.com

Absolutely weak eisegesis. I could say anything I want and give an outline like that.

Psalm 104:14-15
You cause the grass to grow for the livestock
and plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth food from the earth
and wine to gladden the heart of man,
oil to make his face shine
and bread to strengthen man's heart.

Drinking Wine is Biblical.
It is for all adults.
It is an act of faith.
It is a gift from God so we can be happy.
It aligns us with the Bible.
It is family oriented.

Drinking wine is not:

It is not a sin.
It is not condemned. Only drunkneness is.
It is not for children. Illegal in US.

Thus all adults should go home tomight and have a drink.
