When I got my first cell phone the last four digits of my phone number were 1666. The employee behind the counter offered to get me a new number because "some Christians don't like that number." I told her it was okay, as long as they didn't want to put it on my forehead or my right hand.

Still, my inner fundy squawked now and then, wondering if I had given up my salvation by accepting that number. After a few months of bad service, I decided that I was safe, but that phone company was of the devil.

My kid sister (the one who went to PCC) actually got mailbox #666 her sophmore year. She freaked out and my mom went ballistic, called the school and demanded they change it (which they , in all fairness, did). My thoughts were A) why would a very fundy school have that as a box number? And B) why was my kid sister such a wimp? It was actually a very cool idea-
