RE: Standards
If a women wearing a pair of pants or slacks that are made for women are considered "that which pertaineth to man," then wouldnt it be acceptable for a man to wear the same garments she is wearing? Huh

I am who I am. The rest is your problem.

No, they'll think you're a bad Christian when you don't display the love the way Christ would. Just like Ghandi said, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." You can disregard the standards yet still show Christlike love, but you can also follow every standard yet disregard Christlike love.

Yeah, this. My church here shows Christ's love by serving in the community, serving without trying to convert the masses. That speaks volumes and brings people to church to hear about this God we serve who must be so different from the Fundy god.

When I was a fundy, the standards pushed people away from God. They didn't see our rules and think, "Wow, you are really moral people." They thought, "Y'all are a bunch of freaks. Cult members. Sheeple. No way am I going to be like you!"

And the problem with a lot of fundy external standards is that they end up looking a lot like judgment on others who don't follow them. That actually was what started my path out of fundyism - when a friend who was visiting church got some dirty looks for wearing pants instead of a skirt. Honestly, she was dressed more appropriately, more formally, than I was, but she felt unwelcome because no one could get past the fact that she was wearing pants.

I think, in short, that what you're saying essentially boils down to: God doesn't keep people from God. Religion keeps people from God. Is that correct?

RE: Standards
It always irked me that any standard that the preacher or college wanted to preach or enforce that didn't have a direct Bible verse to look to was backed up by a "biblical principle." And that principle was supported by a bunch of convoluted verses tagged together in a "natural progression." Of course, this is the point where I tuned them out and rejected their teaching. Dodgy
