Failsafe
Ok, most of you probably haven't heard of the failsafe diet, because it was started in Australia by dieticians in a hospital here.
Anyhow, it's not a diet about losing weight or eating healthier. It's a diet that acknowledges that some people have intolerance reactions to foods that they eat and don't even know it. The idea is to minimise the types of foods that people tend to react to, and then when they've gone off them for a time, introduce one group at a time in a big way, so they can see if they have a reaction to it. Then they will know if they should limit intake of certain foods long term or not. There's a website about it at http://www.fedup.com.au Anyway, we did it once, years ago. My now 7 year old daughter failed the first challenge in a big way. She was absolutely uncontrollable, unable to sleep, and generally very unhappy, and it was very obvious that it happened when she had sals (since she'd stopped that behaviour before the challenge). That was the salicylates test though, and since that would mean limiting which fruits she could have we pretty much threw the diet and ate normally. Now the kids are acting up big time, and quite frankly they've got some good reasons to be cranky right now. But everybody's unhappy and it's hard to manage so I'm going to try and go back on the diet again, just to see if it helps. I've ordered the cook book and a dvd and am waiting for that to arrive, and then hopefully we can start it next fortnight. It's a pain because you can't have most prepackaged foods, and you have to make things from scratch, and the food is bland until you get used to it. Which you do; I still cook failsafe meals for dinner sometimes, and sometimes I even crave it. But yeah. I'm worried I'll blow it again - I'm really not good at sticking with things - but I need to stick with it long enough to at least see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, then fair enough. But the same child who screamed and chucked tantrums and couldn't sleep at night when she had sals is currently screaming and chucking tantrums so I guess it's worth trying. RE: Failsafe
Everyone's system is different, and because of the stress you and you're family are under, even a small amount might cause problems. I hope it does for you what you hope.
