a fundy view of heaven
In my fundy view of heaven, it starts out with meeting Jesus. And that is very scary. Because you hope He will say, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." But as of now, you're not ready to die, so if you died today, He will probably be very disappointed in you when you see Him. You'll hang your head in shame wishing you'd done more.
Then you will get your very own mansion on a street made of gold. You will hopefully get some crowns for all the souls you won. The rest of eternity is going to be a full-time church service forever and ever singing God-glorifying hymns along with the angels. THERE WILL ABSOLUTELY BE NO DRUMS IN HEAVEN. If you do not enjoy Sundays as a fundamentalist, then you will not enjoy heaven. (one teacher put it to us this way). Oh, also, no animals will be there. Only people. And everyone will be in their early 30's. "I'm going to heaven! CAN'T WAIT!" |

RE: a fundy view of heaven
One day St. Peter was walking a newcomer through the streets of Heaven. He asked Peter about the high wall that ran along one side of the street of gold.
"Oh, don't be alarmed. On the other side is where the Independent Fundamental Baptists are. They still think they're the only ones here."

And when you look out your window you see your pastor's mansion across the street. His is much larger than anyone elses (except for the other pastors) and there are so many crowns they are flowing into the street. Flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes. |

How long will it take for the fundies to get over the fact non-fundies are in heaven with them? I bet some will have a bone to pick with Jesus about that. RE: a fundy view of heaven
I think the OP is a fairly accurate and common view of how IFB's see heaven. When I left there, I started reading Jonathan Edwards. It was hard because most of the reading I was accustomed to in fundyville was Hal Lindsay level. Edwards view of heaven is beautiful and wonderful. We are given eyes that can see God for who he is in ever increasing ways each day, so that as we experience God, there is never a dull day. Then a few years later I spent a year with my small group (Oh the horrors that would have been heaped on us for having a small group in a fundy church) reading Randy Alcorn's book Heaven. FANTASTIC!!!
There will be animals there. And food. And work. And sports. And everything else we have on earth. Probably even the coolest iPads you could ever imagine. And he supports it all with scripture. The Fundy view of heaven is weak and does not give anyone a desire to be there, except the greatest soul winners who will get a big mansion and lots of crowns. btw, the crowns are not crowns. The Crown of life is "The Crown, which is LIFE." You endure to the end and you get eternal life. Not by works, but by grace through faith. |

RE: a fundy view of heaven
A book that changed my thinking on the subject is Heaven is a Place on Earth: Why everything you do matters to God.
One of my favorite salvation stories is about a man who dies and goes to heaven. Of course, St. Peter meets him at the pearly gates. St. Peter says, "Here's how it works. You need 100 points to make it into heaven. You tell me all the good things you've done, and I give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in." "Okay," the man says, "I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in my heart." "That's wonderful," says St. Peter, "that's worth three points." "Only three points?" he says. "Well, I attended church all my life and supported its ministry. I practised stewardship - sharing time, treasure and talent." "Terrific!" says St. Peter, "that's certainly worth a point." "One point? Golly. How about this; I started a soup kitchen in my community and worked in a shelter for the homeless." "Fantastic, that's good for two more points," he says. "Two points!!" the man cries, "At this rate the only way I'll get into heaven is by the grace of God!" "Now you've got it right, come on in!"
