IFB Cult Survivors group on Facebook is back!
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=35...847&v=wall

There was a discussion in the "How Did You Find SFL?" Thread about this group being deleted. It looks like the group has been reinstated Smile

Thanks for the heads up! I missed that site. I don't have the courage to "join" just yet, but in the past I read it everyday! Plus it led me to SFL which was a HUGE bonus!

I was a member of it for a bit, but opted out of it again... I didn't really want my IFBx friends seeing I was a member of that group (although I still peruse it).

If it would help, maybe you can create an alternative Facebook account with a fake identity that you can use for this group. I've seen several people do things like that. Of course, you'd need another email address to do this, but it would be a good way to still be a member of the group if you are concerned about other people knowing about it.

I too hadn't joined, but I did read it. I thought having all those stories posted on the discussions page would be a help toward people who had been abused and had been to intimidated to tell anyone, so I was disappointed that the fb took the group down. I was very happy to see it returned, because I think it's important for people who have been abused and then shamed and silenced - especially in a CHRISTIAN context which makes it so spiritually damaging - to be able to speak up, be believed, and supported.

I was actually kicked out of the group when I was still a somewhat fundy-symphatizer. Said the wrong stuff, got kicked out.

An outstanding project in progress, by the Grace of God.

From what I gather, they are fiercely protective. Any positive posts about any pastors/churches aren't allowed because they don't want victims to feel like someone's defending someone who may have hurt them. I am amazed that it's not a closed group because many times some very sensitive information is shared and some highly emotional language is used (probably part of why it got reported to fb in the first place) so I was always surprised that it was left open for anyone to read. However, part of the purpose of the group is to expose the wrongful abuse that's happened in IFB churches, and it won't be exposed if it's a closed group.

The thing I never understood was people being critical because they focused on the IFB: "You know, abuse happens in other denominations too. Why don't you expose THAT?" Well, the IFB is what they know -- they were the churches they were in -- (and also the IFB has been under the radar for a long time) so they are focusing on that. Another group can focus on other churches that abuse. It's kind of like people criticizing SFL because we talk mostly about the IFB. I'm sure someone could do a fascinatingly funny website about the exaggerations and idiosyncracies found in churches that follow tongues-speaking, prophesying, prosperity gospel, etc., but that's not the focus here.

I got kicked out because I was honest about the IFB and SBC links, and said the SBC is all too often not a safe place for ex-IFBs. Hey, I've been in both groups, and I'm not afraid to use my own experiences as a warning.

What was so weird about that was that one of the regular posters at the time *was* from a Southern Baptist church and posted about her SBC experiences frequently, and the mod never complained.
