Hugo
So. I'm a little behind in the times, and I just watched Hugo. I absolutely adored it. Pure adoration. Part of that may have been the multitude of incredibly deep and meaningful lines.

One of my favorites: "I'd imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn't be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason."

So yeah. I watched it with two friends, both of whom were largely unimpressed with it. One of them called me mean names when I said I liked it better than The Help. Tongue But I digress. . . I'm sorry if there was already a thread about it, but I just had to share and I didn't feel like digging all the way down the previous threads to check. Tongue

"When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams, this may be madness. To seek treasure where there is only trash -- Too much sanity may be madness! And maddest of all, to see life as it is, and not as it should be!" ~Man of La Mancha

RE: Hugo
I need to watch it. I read the book. I liked the idea of using both pictures and words to propel the plot, making it more visual than the typical book but less visual than a graphic novel. I did find the story itself a bit unwieldy, kind of slow and plodding, but I am very interested in seeing if the story worked better on the big screen.

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

RE: Hugo
I look forward to watching it with you soon, little brother. And I promise, no mean names. Cool

RE: Hugo
We watched it as a family and enjoyed it a lot. My husband is one of those IMDb geeks who looks up all the actors to see what else they've been in, so he was asking us who we knew this one from or that one from. Of course, Christopher Lee was remembered as Saruman, but our kids only knew poor Sir Ben Kingsley as the Hood (from the 2004 Thunderbirds movie).

RE: Hugo
I saw it on the big screen and it was very very good.

Personally The Help sounds like something that would bore ME to death. Big Grin

RE: Hugo
Close to if not the best movie of the year.

The visual feel of the movie and the characters were very well done, exactly what you would expect from Scorsese, but not exactly what you would expect from him either.

RE: Hugo
Just saw this a few weeks ago after seeing it win a ton of Academy Awards at the Oscar's. Good one. I enjoyed it. If you saw The Artist, I thought it was interesting that both of these movies nominated for a ton of awards this year had themes about entertainment technologies becoming obsolete.
