Triggers
I know this has been done before, but I'm doing it again. Our church, which is Anglican, is working on its web site, and the rector's wife, a former Baptist herself, sent out an email asking for "testimonies".

RE: Triggers
It's hard to disassociate ourselves from Fundyness sometimes. Some "church words" are universal.

RE: Triggers
Every time I hear some preacher mention "tithe" I get shudders.

Fundamentalism no longer has a hold on me - I'm free!

RE: Triggers
The pastor at my UMC got up today and started speaking with an arrogant "preacher boy" voice...

For about a minute, I had to repeat to myself over and over to calm down; he wasn't going to say anything fundy.

RE: Triggers
My family stayed fundy, and my husband's family is conservative evangelical, so I hear things all the time from them that bother me for no good reason. I hate being asked about my relationship with Christ. I hate being asked to be amazed with someone over some awesome thing God has done (though I do think God does awesome things). It does get better with time, though.

RE: Triggers
Here's what I sent. Apparently it was what she was looking for:

My son has autism, and at (our church), he is not tolerated, he is welcomed, and encouraged to serve. This spirit of mutual service takes many forms. He takes his turn as an acolyte, and he has buddies who take turns sitting with him so we have an opportunity to focus on worship. Fr. Deacon J. said it so well: "We're all in this together. We need him as much as he needs us."

Perfect testimony, Papa Bear. All churches don't handle special needs kids so well and with so much grace.

Sad, but true. We had one church tell us that we were welcome, but if he couldn't act like the other Sunday school kids, he shouldn't come.

RE: Triggers
My youngest isn't diagnosed officially, but at best he's got some delays and at worst he's on the spectrum. He has been taken care of so lovingly and patiently. Somehow we have people teaching preschool Sunday school classes who are in education--elementary and special ed, that just roll with him and his quirks. At the risk of sounding cliche and adding another trigger...it IS a blessing.

What an incredible testimony for that church. How that must strengthen your faith! Some churches barely handle any children nicely, much less treat them with the importance Jesus did.
