My dad and I have the same first name. Because of this, my mail is always opened when I get it because my stepmom thinks it is my dad's, even though my middle initial is different from his. They know the contents of every letter, check, or package I get, unless I get to the mailbox first.

This happens at my house now, too. Not so much before my boy hit his teens, but sometimes, before he figured out what he was going to do for college, I would open mail meant for him. If the middle initial was included, I usually wouldn't. But I learned fairly early to look for that middle initial. Sounds like your stepmom is using the "same first name" to be a nosy somethingorother.

Unless it's a legal notice, you can request your name be different for mailing purposes.
