There is a study that did just that. It allowed a group of kids to serve themselves from a buffet only the food they wanted to eat.

The first two meals they stuffed themselves with deserts, ice cream cake and pies. Then they went back to Mac and cheese for a while.

Over time (a month) they found that kids will NATURALLY eat a balanced diet, over time, if left to their own devices. (If you try this only once per week, they will always go for the forbidden food.)

Many of us have seen what happens during Halloween with kids who are not allowed to eat candy the rest of the year. Many of us learned what getting sick by eating too much chocolate is all about. Many of us who left the church in our early twenties learned the hard way what happens when we drink too much alcohol. At some point, hopefully sooner than later, we learn moderation.

Oh, by the way, those studies I mentioned were from the late fifties.

Please rent "The Lion King." What possible bad thing could any kid pick up by watching that movie?

If your son continues to "play doctor" with the neighbor's girl at some point they need to have some age-appropriate understanding of why that is not a good idea. Simple control and avoidance are good in the short run, but disastrous in the long run.
