Oh yes. I've heard it many times. It's even in books. I really got bleeped off when I read it in "The Courage to Heal". Someone in the book mentioned seeing the sidewalks while she was there. I was there too, and there were no painted sidewalks.

Quote:Most of the kids from my Christian school went to BJ and the "rebels" or "non-conformists" went to Maranatha. I also have some siblings that have gone there and gotten their degrees and so I visited them a few times over the years while they were there. I never took any classes but I doubt it was any different than the other Christian colleges that I attended.

At my school, the preacherboys and the girls who wanted to marry them went to Hyles, while the rest of us were supposed to go to TTU or BJU. In over 30 years, only three of us went to BJU and only two graduated. I think five or six went to TTU and maybe two or three graduated. College just wasn't pushed at Fundy Academy.

RE: Fundy U: BJU edition
The pink and blue sidewalks work as a metaphor - at least when I was there, there absolutely were sidewalks where I as a woman was not allowed to walk. But they certainly weren't actually color coded!

Maybe they should have been painted! Instead you just have to remember, especially when rules changed after 7:00 p.m. Especially as a new student, it was confusing to remember! I especially hated the rule that said I couldn't walk to the practice shacks by myself but not being a music major, I wasn't allowed to practice in the nice rooms under Mary Gaston (I think it was Gaston). How in the world was I supposed to get my five hours of practice in a week? I eventually gave up piano lessons, because I was too shy to try to find someone to walk me over to the shacks (and a friend with HER to walk her BACK to the dorms!) And then how would I get back without breaking the rules? Just humiliating, to be 18 and not allowed to walk for five minutes alone across campus. So yeah, painted sidewalks would have been humiliating and babyish, but no more humiliating than the rules themselves. It would have only SHOWN the reality of how we actually had to behave.

(And BTW, I just dated myself by mentioning the practice shacks! I think they were torn down when I was in grad school.)

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

But, yeah, I would have totally gotten mad if someone said, "I saw them" because, no, they really WEREN'T painted!

There were there during the one year I was forced to attend Big Jerk Academy.

Ha! I was so clumsy at BJU that I wouldn't have needed magic glasses. I was closer to those sidewalks than anyone would ever want to be. The person who busted it in front of the guys' dorms in a very full skirt? Right here. The one who got caught outside under the covered sidewalks in nearly 70-mph winds and had to be pulled into the Admin building? Yup. If there was a faceplant or some other embarassingly clumsy or awkward incident, it was probably me. (Warning to parents: Don't send your kids off to college before they stop growing. Adolescent awkwardness and university living are one ugly combination.)

As a GA, I lived on both the girls' and the boys' side of campus. No paint on the sidewalks. Heck, it'd be scraped off in a month over on the girls' side just from Sunday after-dinner snail trail.

Does anyone remember a time when Dr. Wood cussed while teaching a class? I think it was some Preacher Boy's class.

I realize that we've already discussed the racism of BJU in this thread, but Camille Lewis has posted letters written by the Bob Jones 2nd and 3rd about their racial policies.

Directly contradicts the Larry King interview where BJ III said the no-inter-racial dating rule wasn't enforced.

Wow! These are incredible! I remember being disappointed that students at school so easily accepted his comment when many of us knew that it was untrue. Btw, even after his comment, it was still enforced on one of my friends.
