She-bears and the IFB pastor
I'm not sure if anyone has ever come across this logic, but in my IFB camp, if you disagree with the pastor, or correct him on something, the IFB logic that follows includes the "she-bears". This is a reference to the children who made fun of Elijah's bald head and were then killed by she-bears.
In fact, I've heard this several times when it came to people who spoke against any pastor. If you disagree with the pastor strongly enough on any issue, even something like private property rights of the church, someone will say something about "touch not the Lord's anointed" or "watch out for she-bears, buddy". This makes me Hulk rage so fast because the logic behind it shows me the ignorance of the speaker, yet despite my telling them their faulty logic, they come back with some random rebuttal that I've never heard before and so I'm standing there, all dumbfounded by their lack of intelligence. It's as if any leader in the Old Testament was a pastor/preacher equivalent of those times, and I hate it. "Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." |

RE: She-bears and the IFB pastor
Well, I for one am all for the notion of she-bears killing the mockers of bald heads. But that's just me.

So: you're more bothered by people who believe the Bible and try to apply it than you are by the passage itself, which establishes that a man got mildly annoyed by innocent children, invoked his god against them, and then his god brutally murdered the children via she-bear? Your "hulk rage" is a little misplaced. "When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. RE: She-bears and the IFB pastor
It's people misusing the bible by quoting it out of context to manipulate people in the here and now. Some ifb pastors get away with atrocious filth, and are very good at silencing anyone who disagrees with them.
I haven't heard the she-bears one, but I've heard 'touch not the lord's anointed'. Our love is the digital transfer of information ![]()

The whole chapter is a series of unconnected events surrounding the death of Elijah. Elisha walks into town, children make fun of his baldness, he curses them "in the name of the Lord," and the she-bears maul 42 kids. So I'm kind of curious as to what the "correct" interpretation of this passage is, if not "don't @#$% with the man of God." "When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord doesn’t work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me." - Emo Philips |
