We used to clean our church, but now that we don't attend anymore, we work around the house, have lunch, nap together (or not nap) and generally just enjoy each other's company til its time to get the kids. If you're not much of a gamer and short on time, but need computer-type relaxation, I suggest http://www.bigfishgames.com. Hubby and I enjoy doing that together; he crochets while I work the mouse. He knits and crochets. Right now he is making a baby blanket for an expecting friend. He also works on cars, motorcycles, airplanes, computers, and anything with moving parts. There's such a thing a weekends?!?!?!?
I thought that was a fantasy propagated by children and teens. The days are all the same now. "Funny, you're the broken one, but I'm the only one who needed saving." |

RE: What do you do on your weekend off?
Darrell,
Your area may be more rural than mine and not offer the options that the large metropolitan area where I live does, but there may be free things in your area for children. I found all the fast food places with playgrounds - great for the winter up here in the north - and loved exploring different playgrounds and would get excited whenever we found one that still had a merry-go-round! (No seesaws anymore in ANY of them though!) The local mall offers at least once a month a free program for kids like a singing group or puppets or a storyteller. The local library has reading storytime (usually during the week), but also offers fun things on the weekend sometimes like a "birthday" party for Frosty the Snowman or a Princess Tea. Our town's Rec Department has a few free events each year; the next upcoming one is an Easter Egg hunt. Sometimes bookstores offer free storytimes too. You probably know all this, and since your second little one is still tiny and new, it makes it complicated to get out with her. I just thought I'd share some ideas because when I first moved to this area I was discouraged because I didn't have money to buy a pass to the zoo or a local museum, but I found there were some cool things I could do for free. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

oh yeah the biggest one of all: heading to hockey. (14 year old JV hockey player=lots of trips to arenas, lots of miles to road games). It's not every weekend but 3 out of 4 all winter.
We're scheduled for a road trip tomorrow. 500 miles, 2 arenas, 1 hotel day...I hope we are all feeling better by then![/i] Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.--Howard Zinn |

You aren't by chance working with CAP are you? I used to volunteer doing the same thing if that's what you're talking about. It was fun while it lasted. Although both of us are in the military, we chose to live off-base. The range we go to the most isn't on base, but is in our town. The range we wish we could go to the most is a little over an hour away. We're not working with CAP, though I'd feel honored if I ever did. |

All you need is a GPS and internet access (and if you want to TAKE swag, you have to have a little swag to leave in return). It's fun because there's a goal and a challenge but you also often end up at a park with scenery for me and my camera and playground equipment for the kids. I REALLY want us to bike together more as a family, but my bike's tire got ruined this past summer so we need to invest a little money before we can indulge in that pastime again. usually have Sunday PM together since I've done some geocaching, and enjoyed it. Since I didn't have a gps, I usually relied on good descriptions. |

We have two little ones (28 months and 4 months), and our life is pretty much awful right now. Yes, we have a great house, a good church, a decent job, and my children are healthy. But everything is bleak when we're both sleep-deprived (and therefore depressed). Everyone tells me this is just a phase while the kids are young. I'm counting on that, or I seriously will go crazy. Hope things get better for you soon!Quote:Do you get into Xbox or PC games? |
