Greg, I'm going to use some very simple (and sad) logic to settle this issue once and for all. In the past year or two how many gay kids have chosen death over the persecution/bullying they face due to their sexual orientation? Waay too many. Now wouldn't it be a helluva lot easier to choose to be straight, rather than take your own life? Obviously, they can't choose to be straight (just like they didn't choose to be gay).

Btw, Rise Against (an awesome band!) has a relatively new (and moving) song about this tragedy of bullying/suicide:

There is a difference. Just ask any black guy how his parents reacted when he told them he was black. On the other hand, why would a significant portion of the population choose to be gay?

i loved the video, even though it was hard to watch.
I deal with junior high age kids every day and have a 14 and 16 year old at home. Bullying, especially sexually based, can be devastating. Praying for all these kids that they can find peace and acceptance.

Glad you liked it. It is a very powerful song/vid - one that's not easily forgotten. (Rise Against has lots of great songs with very meaningful lyrics.)

I'm disappointed to hear that Civil Rights™ was copyrighted by the black community. It would have been nice for all citizens to be able to campaign for rights, but they got there first, so (at least according to one competent voice on here) teh gayz aren't allowed. Oh, wait. . . If we went by those rules, women shouldn't have been allowed to campaign for suffrage. . . Hmm.

Gay marriage doesn't do damage to individual marriages. The issue is that gay marriage is detrimental to marriage as an institution, which, by historical measure, is not inclusive to couples outside of couples of different genders. Marriage, as practiced today, also predates civilization, societies, and communities. Homosexual marriage does not have the benefit of historical need or societal benefit. In that way, it is trivial at best.

Not to say that homosexuals cannot have longterm, even lifetime relationships with same sex partners. But to call the relationship a marriage is, bluntly, a lie, a deception, an impossibility.

Civil rights applies to every single person who can claim protection under the Constitution. Opponents of gay marriage, however, don't see a ban on gay marriage as a civil rights issue. The comparison of gay marriage to 60's civil rights or to the suffrage movement falls flat on it's face. No one is saying gays can't be gays, gays can't vote, or gays have to sit at the back of the bus. I guess everyone here, and I will include Greg as well, believe those who physically assault gays should be prosecuted under state laws regarding assault. I believe gays have the right to speech, assembly, religion and conscious, the right to guns (http://www.pinkpistols.org), rights against the quartering of soldiers, a right to a trial by jury, and rights against excessive punishment, fines, and prosecution. I have a hard time seeing where, constitutionally, gays have a civil rights issue regarding the government not recognizing gay unions.
