The identity of Jack Chick
He does not say anything about his identity, but it is my contention that he leaves bits and pieces in his tracts that could give us a picture of his personality and features.
What do you know about the mysterious Jack T. Chick? Where does he live? How old is he? Is he married? What church does he go to? (...) Go ahead. The Fellowship of Post-Fundamentalists |

I'm not convinced Jack Chick even wrote this one. Illustrated it definitely, but it's... familiar... every word is almost word for word from the mouth of another preacher. Even the main "soulwinner" looks like a popular evangelist with black hair and a thin moustache. All that's missing is the North Island New Zealand accent, and a banana. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; - Titus 2:11-12 |

right out of the mouth of Ray Comfort. Amazing how all the scoffers in those tracts turn around so quickly. I guess Chick's fictional evangelizers portray the success I always thought I should have if only I had all the right words at all the right times.

This is the reason why I was very dissatisfied with my evangelism efforts and thought there was something wrong with my personality. These tracts do not portray realistic situations. I like some of his simpler tracts, but the majority of them are just plain nutty. I've always wondered about what church he attends.

RE: The identity of Jack Chick
ok, I'm lying in bed sick so I just watched the entire Jack Chick film. Interesting that he does have friends and a wife, and nobody has a photo of him since the 40s. I wonder if he goes by a fake name or something. It seems like you could find anyone today if you really want to.
I didn't realize some of those tracts go as far back as the 60s. And a bunch of those sexy comic books were not drawn by Chick, but by another artist. The film features interviews with Kent Hovind. He sounds familiar to me. It says at the end he's in jail now for tax offenses. |
