I need a new Bible
I am shopping for a new Bible and I need a study kind. I like the NLT but it's too well, it just doesn't read. I like the HCSB but that's weird too, I like the ESV but, idk, bible reading is a chore.

Have you looked at the NASB?

My husband has just about every version of the Bible there is. Rolleyes

I carry the ESV or NKJV, but I like the NASB, too.

Looking for some interesting Bible reading? I recommend the Cotton Patch Bible. Or the Klingon one.

Actually not a bad idea.

I love the paraphrased Bibles, such as the old Living Bible. It helps me remember that whatever is written there is simply one man's opinion as to how to translate it. (Which, when push comes to shove, is the same with ANY other version. The difference is these versions make no bones about it.

I enjoyed the year I spent reading the skeptic's Bible. http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/

NASB and ESV sound the same to me.

Lots of people love the NIV, but I personally prefer the NKJV. My husband has the John MacArthur study Bible and really likes it. Me, I carry my beaten up nearly worn out NKJV to church but read the free HCSB on my Nook.

RE: I need a new Bible
I've got real problems with the MacArthur study bible.

One thing is to add more research to the bible. A totally different thing is to try to make the bible say what you want it to say, Macarthur does that. (The worst of these is the Scofield bible.)

Fortunately, there are so many aids on the internet today, that it is not hard to get one or two dozen versions of a particular verse, to deepen your study.

RE: I need a new Bible
I like the NLT, NIV, and ESV - I love the way the ESV renders the Psalms, otherwise I like the very literary feel of the NLT, with the NIV being not far behind. I have gotten used to the less formal feel of these two and started really enjoying reading/listening to them. NLT is really the one I use most.

You really must consider the NRSV. It reads like a charm.

If a man-o-god delivers a toe-stomping sermon and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
