Understood.
I adamantly disagree with you as well. Scripture says baptism saves. Period. Baptism=Jesus. Respectively of course.

RE: Age of Accountability and Children Getting Saved
I was always told that babies went to heaven because of what David said when he lost his son with Bathsheba "I will go to him, but he cannot come back to me". Or something like that.

RE: Age of Accountability and Children Getting Saved
I prayed the prayer at the age of 5 after a spanking. So Jesus would come into my heart and help keep me from doing things that got me spanked. Thanks, Mom!

RE: Age of Accountability and Children Getting Saved
How can baptism = Jesus?
How can you be Jesused into Jesus? Jesused into Jesus death? Jesus of Repentance? Did John the Jesus come Jesusing to make Jesus manifest to Israel? Jesus of Moses when they were under the cloud with the waters on each side? If baptism is Jesus, why don't you fill the pool with blood and flesh too? Also, along similar lines, if baptism is the NT equivelent of circumcision, then no woman should ever be baptized, since no woman could ever enter the Old Covenant via circumcision. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; - Titus 2:11-12 |

RE: Age of Accountability and Children Getting Saved
For people like myself who have lost a child to miscarriage or for those who have had a child die, this question is very painful and not one easily discussed.
I cannot claim an unbiased perspective. I can only say that I know in my heart that the Judge of all the Earth will do right and that when I see Him I will be able to say "He has done all things well." I have no other hope than this. RE: Age of Accountability and Children Getting Saved
I believe that infants and children go to heaven when they die. I imagine that it is different for everyone when they come to a point where they are able to trust in Christ. Everyone develops differently. As someone else mentioned, the passage regarding David and his infant brings some comfort.
LutheranEmily, I was just wondering. Do you believe you were saved by faith in Christ, baptism or some combination of the two? I am not trying to pick on you. I am sincerely curious. Also, when I get a chance, I will listen to your podcast. we are all a little looney |

I don't know about my miscarried child either, but like you I can only trust the character of God. He is good. He is love. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

RE: Age of Accountability and Children Getting Saved
I taught 4 & 5 year old Sunday school for years in my fundy church. However, due to my fundy child experiences, I detested pressure tactics to get kids saved. If I had a Sunday school lesson that dealt with salvation issues, I was very clear about what God did for us, but also told the kids if they wanted to know more about salvation they should talk to their parents about it when they got home. (I figured if a five year old remembered it that long, it was probably pretty important to them.) In the 6 years I taught that class, I had one student who actually brought it up to her parents one night later in the week. My guess is that that kid was ready. I'm so glad that her answer to salvation will never be "I repeated a prayer my Sunday School teacher told me to say."

RE: Age of Accountability and Children Getting Saved
Darrell, I lost 2 babies too. I can only trust God and his goodness.
I was saved by faith. I was also saved in baptism. I was raised in the faith, and never told anything other than Jesus loved me. I grew up believing. There was never a "moment". There never needed to be. The normal response to faith in an adult is baptism. Scripture tells those who believe to be baptized and wash away your sin. This is also what I meant by baptism=Jesus. It is our personal connection to Jesus. We are baptized INTO Christ. It is not our work. Baptism is Gods work. We are baptized *in the name of the triune God* which is very significant, but something that most of the christian world doesn't put too much emphasis on, but it is significant nonetheless. It is the means of grace to us personally.. how we can have a good conscience with God. (sound familiar?) We can know we are saved because we are baptized. Similar to being married, we don't go around saying that we "were married". We say that we "are baptized". We were baptized into Christ. God is not bound to baptism however. Not everyone who has faith will have an oppurtunity to be baptized. However, scripture is clear that it saves. It never says anything else. Seriously. Go read every single scripture having to do with baptism and you will not ever get the impression that it is something we do to show the world we are saved. It always talks about the remission of sins, or rebirth, or cleansing. Another quick and entertaining video about baptism can be found here.. This one is a little silly, but I think he answers the questions and shows the relationship between baptism and faith quite nicely. Bear with the intro, or skip to about 2:30. And it really is entertaining, and not that long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voUBySliAgY |
