The management reserves the right to amend the list of sins without prior notice
I was just thinking about things that used to be sins and are not considered to be so anymore. Like TV in some circles, the internet and facial hair.
Also, I am sure there are things that are now considered to be a sin that were not in the past. What are some examples that you can think of? Ability without honor is useless. Cicero |

RE: The management reserves the right to amend the list of sins without prior notice
Just a few to start...some of these are STILL considered sinful by the Fundy fringe:
1. VCRs/DVD players 2. Eating at restaurants that have bars or serve wine/beer. (Where I grew up, the only places that didn't serve liquor are fast food joints, you can even get a beer at the bakery!) 3. Going to the beach/Playing Sports/Shopping on a Sunday. 4. Women wearing makeup/jewelry/fancy hair-dos |

RE: The management reserves the right to amend the list of sins without prior notice
Social networking. When MySpace first came out, my pastor preached hard about the "evils of the internet", which subsequently caused my mother to think the internet is satanic and start severely limiting our Internet usage to school work only. They also preached against Facebook, but after other churches and preachers started using Facebook, it became acceptable and the church made itself a fan page.
Also, going out to eat on Sunday. I remember preachers saying it was a sin when I was younger, but now every Sunday night after church a large group of people from my church will go to this Mexican restaurant in our town that also serves alcoholic drinks. |

Is anyone still preaching against wire-rim glasses?
I know some IFB churches that have projector screens and use power-point. Those are often preached against in some circles. Something that didn't use to be a sin but now is - the length of little girls' dresses. I have some old Christian books for children from the 50s and 60s with illustrations of happy families going to church, dad in his hat, mom in her gloves, little girl with bobby socks and Mary Janes and a dress well above her knees, sometimes (depending on the age of the child) showing ruffly panties underneath. At some point, knee-length dresses become mandatory on ALL girls, even toddlers. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

Occasionally I'll see that, where even a baby has to be dressed "modestly." I was never allowed to wear anything above knee-length as a kid, even when I was 5 years old (except some sleep shorts I had were considered okay). |

RE: The management reserves the right to amend the list of sins without prior notice
-Hippies are still mentioned in sermons here in NC.
-Sometimes Elvis is resurrected so they can crucify him over and over again. -Know of one lady who was a daughter-in-law to a local IFB M-O-g who was churched for working at a Pizza Hut. They serve beer at Pizza Hut and the alcohol prohibition is written into the church's covenant/by-laws. -Beards are hit and miss in this area, I was grilled on a couple of occasions about mine. -In this area in particular anything other than Hymns and Southern Gospel (with the exception of Kirk Talley) is considered heritical. -Of course each bunker has its own club rules just to validate their reason for existing separate from everyone else. It is not unusual for three or more IFB churches to be located within a 1 mile radius of one another. The IFB Church meeting places to actual households in the community is fast approaching equalibrium but generally runs anywhere between 10 and 15:1. In my research to find another church, I found three other churches that were exactly the same as the one I left. It's unbelievable how much they're the same, yet separated from each other. |
