Pastor Tedd Butler was sentenced yesterday to 12 months in county jail for molesting former member of Butler's church when the boy was 5 years old. He had previously allocuted to molesting another boy.

A woman who stays married to such a person must feel like she deserves nothing but dung for a husband...Can't figure that out. Must be atrociously bad self-esteem. Sad and horrific.

A woman in the IFB has been brainwashed to submit to her husband. If he's done wrong then God will sort him out. But if she leaves him, then she's doing wrong, and she will answer to God for it. A woman in the IFB who leaves her husband may well lose all her friends, family, everything. She may well receive hate mail. If he owns the house, she may be homeless. If the car's in his name, she may be without transport. If she's been a 'good' stay at home wife, she may have no skills to enable her to be employed. She might have no social skills to be able to make it outside the bubble. If her husband has been emotionally abusive, she may have no ability to make decisions.

Oh, and on top of all that, she has to deal with the shame of her husband's betrayal, and her feelings of guilt, because obviously if she was meeting his needs better, he would never have fallen like this.

Sadly, Tiarali is very right. I've seen it many times, and know women who are currently fighting off bankruptcy, two who have lost her home, and many more who lose friends and family. One of my elementary teachers was married to a pervert, and she "didn't want to split up the family" so her and her 5 kids continued to live with a known pedophile.

So much fear.

How did we get to frame the issue as "A woman leaving her husband?" (I know, besides our IFB background?)

Her husband just admitted twice to not only being unfaithful to her, but to being a criminal, and knowingly and willfully victimizing children to boot. Usually there is plenty of indications that these are not isolated incidents. It is just that the District Attorneys did not feel they had enough "actionable" proof.

If this creep has children, it would be criminal for her not to divorce him and make sure he does not see them except under strict supervision.

I know that, and I agree with you.

The problem is, such a woman in any situation is a type of victim of the crime itself. The shock you feel is indescribably. Such a woman within an IFB background has an almost insurmountable task, and with no support, and to boot, she will be dealing with a lifetime of indoctrination that God would strike her down if she was so evil as to leave her husband.

Do you know what it's like to have to take some small children and move to a woman's shelter? What about when you're receiving hate mail and your friends are, one by one, walking away from you? When you're in such a level of shock that you are just going through the motions for about six weeks, unable to function properly or feel real emotions? And when you do, it just hurts so much you can't even put it into words?

There needs to be a lot more support for women whose husband commits such crimes. Yes they need to leave him. They also need to know they haven't committed the unpardonable sin for doing so. There are some pretty serious reasons why such abuse continues within the IFB unabated, and there are a lot of pastors who are going to have to answer for their teachings and 'counselling'.
