I grew up in Costa Rica, where the grades A, B and C coffee were exported.

What stayed in the country was the dregs. Then they would adulterate it with chickoree, peanut shells and who knows what else.

That's funny. A friend of mine who used to live in Israel said the same thing about oranges. He said all of the good ones were exported, and it was impossible to find a decent orange in Israel.

RE: Coffee
Snob alert!

Ok, I drink mostly locally-roasted single-origin coffees brewed in my french press. My favorite origin has been Sulawessi, but since my wife and I drink decaf now, I buy Decaf Sumatra.

I only drink Starbucks when I am traveling, since it's easy to find on the road.

I did drink some of the Green Mountain pods in my bro-in-law's Keurig last week. They were pretty decent, actually.

When I was in college, I tried some kool-aid, but I didn't like it, and I didn't swallow.

RE: Coffee
Friends don't let friends drink Maxwell House. Or Nescafé.

That being said, and grace being rich and free, we regularly buy French Roast by Charleston Coffee roasters at Costco. $12 for 2lbs.

When we are livin' large we buy organic columbian roast by Counter Culture. IT. IS..... Amazingly smooth and rich and yummy and and and and Smile

HEY JoeR, have you been to Coffee and Crema over by The Fresh Market???

I actually have not. I work in downtown Greenville, so I go to Coffee Undergound quite frequently, but don't make it to the area around Fresh Market often. Is the little coffe counter at Belk in the mall also a Coffee and Crema? I tried there a few weeks ago. It was decent.

Yes, it is Coffee and Crema at Belk. However, IMHO, the coffee you receive, is highly dependent on the barista. Some folks can't even brew a good cup, let alone make a latte or cap.

RE: Coffee
You have an excellent point. I notice differences among the baristas at Coffee Underground. I still have never had a bad latte, cappucino, mocha, etc. from there, just some are better than others.

RE: Coffee
Just about anything from Land Of A Thousand Hills. I love everything I've had from them, and I love that they are actually working in the communities to provide a living wage. Their coconut coffee is simply the best desert coffee I've ever had (and I don't generally like many flavored coffees). I do pay a bit more, but I really like that it is for a good cause.

I do also drink Starbucks when I'm out or traveling. Grande Triple Skinny Mocha. Whip or No Whip depending on my mood. When I have a late night of work (when we've had releases in the past), I opt for the Black Eye with couple sugars.

Maxwell House = sewer water

Folger's Columbian is what I make at home

RE: Coffee
It depends... I really like to buy stuff from small local roasters, but I can't always do that. Tim Horton's is good, so are some varieties of Starbucks and Caribou. But I used to live in South America, sooooo I am real picky about coffee here in the US.
