RE: Fundamentalist Year in Review: 2011
A lot of people don't have any idea of what expunged records really mean.

RE: Fundamentalist Year in Review: 2011
It looks to me like what I wrote is still accurate. He pled guilty to the charge of attempted gross sexual imposition with a juvenile and was convicted. When enough time had passed without an intervening offense, he petitioned to have his record expunged, and it was. That doesn't mean he never pled guilty, was never convicted, and somehow it never happened. He simply got off on a misdemeanor conviction and then later was able to have his record expunged. If I get a letter from Savage's lawyer I might take this threat more seriously, but some yahoo writing out of nowhere to tell me the family is doing this or that could be anybody. Anyway, like I said, I sent an email to the prosecuting attorney.

I'd be very surprised if they allowed a case involving a minor to be expunged. If that has been the case, there needs to be more investigating.

That was the case with David Jorgensen.

From the article I previously linked:

"Jorgensen pleaded no contest in May 2003 to two felony counts of committing lewd acts upon a child, according to online court records. After he completed probation, he sought to have the crimes reduced to misdemeanors and had his record expunged in September 2006."

That's sad! How can they allow sexual offenses of that nature to be expunged?!?

Quote:A Black Earth church pastor who taught his flock to discipline their children, some as young as 2 months old, with wooden spoons and rods was sentenced Friday to two years in prison.

Philip Caminiti, 55, was pastor of Aleitheia Bible Church, which meets in the homes of its members. His lawyer, Yolanda Lehner, asked that he be given probation.

But Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi said the sentence, in part, was intended to send a message that child abuse will not be tolerated and to prevent Caminiti from once again teaching members of his church to spank their children with wooden objects to cure them of selfishness.

"What is important to me," Sumi also said, "is there was and continues to this day no expression of remorse or repentance for the consequences of those actions, or what the whole chain of events has led the family and the community through."

Caminiti was found guilty by a jury in March of eight counts of conspiracy to commit child abuse for teaching church members what he said was a literal interpretation of discipline prescribed by the Bible, on children who were between the ages of 2 months and 5 years.

The practice, intended to teach children to behave correctly, was stopped after police intervened in November 2010.

"The children were beaten for of all things doing what children do, and that is crying," Sumi said.

Caminiti will be on extended supervision for six years after his release from prison. Despite objections on constitutional grounds by Caminiti's lawyers, Sumi ordered that he not have any contact with the Aleitheia Bible Church and have no leadership role in any church.

IFB Pastor Charles Savage, you know, the guy who didn't do anything wrong? The one who might just sue me for posting the details of his indictment? Well he is now facing 11 new counts of various allegations of child molesting.

Expunge that, Mrs. CJ Groves

There's a video that's part of the news page. The video will give you a lot more detail than the text account.

Bass,
Good job on keeping up to date on this one. Often, when a sexual predator offends once, there are usually more victims that haven't come forward. Their own actions keep their records from being expunged.
