What to do on a Sunday afternoon

What to do on a Sunday afternoon
When I was trapped in a Fundy mindset, Sunday was the most miserable day of the week for me, even when I was no longer attending a fundy church. I would come home from church, eat lunch, and then be determined to have serious devotions before doing anything else. I would stare at whatever I was trying to read for a long time and become increasingly tired. Then I would remind myself that I could in good conscience take a nap, because it is the day of rest. So I would fall asleep on the couch. Then wake up and turn on the t.v. Then maybe just maybe finish that Bible reading and prayer, but always with an incredible amount of guilt about how much of a chore it is, and how I'd rather be doing something else.

Monday morning I could shed off the Sunday guilt and proceed to the weekday guilt of not witnessing to people.

RE: What to do on a Sunday afternoon
I live with this everyday. One of the things that I am struggling to let go of.

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; - Titus 2:11-12

RE: What to do on a Sunday afternoon
My solution to my grief over devotionals was to quit having them. I am in a small group now where I have to do a Bible study every day, and it is giving me anxiety. I went from not being able to ask questions about anything, to always having a flood of questions enter my brain whenever I get into the Bible. I hate feeling like a cynic, and I just want some peace in my soul.

RE: What to do on a Sunday afternoon
when i was under that sort of thing, i went to this antique shop near my parents' house and spent most of the afternoon there. when i was in college, i always had a job with random days off. i figured that going to church was like work anyway so if i'm going to have to work, why not do work that got me paid?

while at college i either read books or played games on sunday afternoon. it was a lost day

RE: What to do on a Sunday afternoon
At my Fundy U Sundays often looked like this:

Up at 6:30
Run to breakfast before choir rehearsal
Warm up and sing the first service
More Rehearsal
Sing the second service
Eat lunch in 15 minutes
Run to Vespers warmup
Sing in Vespers.
Run to sign language class
Run to evening church
Run to grab my box lunch for dinner

Sit in the commons completely exhausted and listen to the chaps telling people that they can't play ping-pong on Sunday because it's a "day of rest"

RE: What to do on a Sunday afternoon
In addition to bus routes, my church had Sunday afternoon street preaching and soulwinning between services. I rarely participated because I used Sunday afternoons as time to get caught up on homework.
