AIG - Really?
Regardless of your beliefs this sign is just offensive, closed minded, and ignorant. Undecided

Agreed! Other than that, I have no words!

RE: AIG - Really?
AIG put this billboard up in Texas in 2009 in response to to the dramatic rise of school shooting massacres all across the U.S. and around the world, and specifically one in Finland where the killer posted a video which mentioned putting "Natural Selection back on track" which is certainly an appeal to Social Darwinism (the rhetorical appeal to phrases such as "natural selection" "the struggle for existence" or the old favorite "survival of the fittest, in furtherance of a social idealogy)

AIG contends that this indicates that school massacres are in part created by the teaching of evolution in public schools, I completely concur.

The good news is that Christ died for all of you........not just some of you!

RE: AIG - Really?
I really don't know how to respond to that, greg.

Every time fundies hear about a murderer quoting Bible verses at his victims before he shoots them, they all talk about how the media is trying to destroy Christianity and besmirch the name of Christ. When people go on random shootings and one of those seems linked to social darwinism, they put up billboards that call an entire group of people murderers based simply on the fact that they believe differently than the fundies do.

Seems a little lopsided, don't it. . .

To seek treasure where there is only trash -- Too much sanity may be madness! And maddest of all, to see life as it is, and not as it should be!" ~Man of La Mancha

Unless you're greg, evidently.

I find your response to AIG's sign offensive, narrow-minded and intolerant.

It's offensive, why? Because I say it is!! How much more fundy could you be?

I don't know if I would go that far in my assessment. I do think it is in poor taste. Seems like a wierd thing for AIG to do. If greg's assessment is correct I guess that makes some sense but still not something I would put on a billboard. Seems like it is more for shock value or controversy.

RE: AIG - Really?
Whatever the point of this sign is, it is too subtle, leading us to debate whether it is in poor taste, or completely offensive. I wonder if the whole point is to just make people think. Regardless, I don't care for the sign at all. I think the intended message should be conveyed more clearly or not at all. It is supposed to be a strong message, not art subject to the viewer's interpretation.

When I was in college, I tried some kool-aid, but I didn't like it, and I didn't swallow.

RE: AIG - Really?
I'd say that AIG has been taking lessons from Howard Stern, but I think Howard's got more taste than that. Blush

RE: AIG - Really?
Isn't AIG an investment/financial company? That's what I thought of when I opened the thread...
