NIV and porn
Saw this on David Cloud's website.
RUPERT MURDOCH TO BECOME OWNER OF AMERICA’S LARGEST CHRISTIAN PUBLISHING ENTERPRISE (Friday Church News Notes, November 18, 2011, http://www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation is purchasing Thomas Nelson through its subsidiary HarperCollins Publishers. Since HarperCollins already owns Zondervan, the new purchase will make Murdoch the owner of the largest Christian publishing enterprise in the United States. Murdoch also owns “hard-core” pornographic movie channels which are broadcast over BSkyB and he sells pornographic films via DirecTV. HarperCollins also publishes pornographic books, and many of Murdoch’s other businesses peddle “soft-core porn.” These include raunchy photos published in The Sun newspaper in England, raunchy movies produced by Twentieth Century Fox, and raunchy television shows broadcast by the Fox TV network. Through Zondervan, the porn purveyor Rupert Murdoch owns the New International Version of the Bible and is the publisher of Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life. Murdoch contributed $2 million to Warren’s PEACE plan to build the kingdom of God on earth. This is all very confusing, and we know that God is not the author of confusion.

RE: NIV and porn
He's probably afraid they'll illustrate the Song of Solomon and other passages like that. Big Grin

RE: NIV and porn
If we bought only things where we agreed with everything the corporations who produce them do, we would probably starve to death unless we bought from a family farm down the road. And we wouldn't have any appliances or computers and we would have to cut down our own lumber and kiln our own bricks for our houses. Paul said an idol is nothing in the world, and that we should receive with thanks even things offered to them.

All that being said, I don't know Mr. Cloud, wouldn't recognize him if I saw his picture, but I would be willing to bet he doesn't mind watching Fox News. It's only "confusing" to those who want to be confused and want to stir up trouble, which is all Cloud does. Talk about being bitter, arrogant and hateful. Without those three, Cloud wouldn't have a "ministry."

I walk with bare, hushed feet the ground Ye tread with boldness shod;
I dare not fix with mete and bound The love and power of God. - J.G. Whittier

RE: NIV and porn
I think maybe his definition of porn is a bit too broad.

When I was in college, I tried some kool-aid, but I didn't like it, and I didn't swallow.

Classic line. Of course his (whoever wrote this) opinion on what porn is is a girl sunbathing by the side of pool. And the fact that he's trying to bring the NIV into this is a joke. With that logic, that means the KJV can be disputed because of all the pedophiles that like to thump it on other people's heads. Which of course is also ridiculous

Meh....

I heard about Liberty University owning some hotels that were not being profitable. They hired an outside agency to review their mistakes. Turns out the bread and butter of the hospitality industry is alcohol sales. These hotels now serve alcohol, and have the shot bottles in the fridge and everything.

Does Liberty thus promote drinking alcohol? No. They just adjusted to what the market expects in a specific industry with specific hospitality needs.

Newa America is much larger than Fox News, affiliate stations, and movies. They are in quite a bit more advertising and media ventures than the average consumer knows. Chances are, they are in the drug stores and groceries you visit all the time (I used to install their coupon machines and advertising).

The Ark was built by a lone amateur, and the Titanic was built by an impressive group of professionals.

A businessman just trying to make more money...oh the horror!

Also, fundies abusing the "God is not the author of confusion" verse drives me insane. I find geometry confusing and so do a lot of other people--God must not want us to study geometry!! =P I should've tried that back when I was being homeschooled, heheh.

Oh, me too! My mom's said this one: if everyone brings a different version to church, it's confusing; God's not the author of confusion, ergo we must all use only ONE version - namely the KJV.

(Although I might have tried to use that argument in math class too!)

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.
