Fundies and sarcasm

RE: Fundies and sarcasm
Hair longer than the middle of the back isn't glorious. Sorry, but if it's that long, it just doesn't look right on ANYONE.

When I was in college, I tried some kool-aid, but I didn't like it, and I didn't swallow.

Actually, it does on my daughter... but not my son (as much as he'd like it to be longer).

I think long hair on young girl or young woman is absolutely glorious, but it can be a bit of work. I really like it.

Much as I love my wife, she cannot grow her hair that long

Thankfully hair length for women was never an issue. Mine has been all different lengths but rarely past my shoulder. Longer hair just doesn't look so good on me. Funny...my daughter is the same. She grew it a little longer to be in a wedding and now she's asking to get it cut.

RE: Fundies and sarcasm
My 9 year old today told me that she intends to grow her hair long for her high school formal. It's already long (halfway down her back).

I was never allowed to cut my hair growing up, so I've told her she's allowed to if she wants to. That's a loooong time to be planning ahead for.

RE: Fundies and sarcasm
This is a recent example of theatrical humor. Don't know if it was sarcastic, just meant to be helping someone meet the bar. So awkward to watch.

A man at my church was presented with a certificate of completion for some bogus "doctrinal" study using ancient IFB VHS vids that have been transferred to DVD. He'd completed 40 hours of it. The guy is being presented with a framed certificate in front of the congregation. We have a tiny church, mind you.

Now the awkward part. This guy always looks slightly unkempt and dresses like a semi-formal used car salesman. He doesn't exactly "suit up" nice and pressed. He always wears his tie knot loosely. And before the photo the Pastor awkwardly and without permission attempted to gently fix this guys tie for him. I'm assuming he's on the fast track for deacon and this is a photo they'll want to show to the mission board. This guy put up with this wardrobe adjustment, probably because it was the PASTOR doing it. But he looked annoyed by the third try to get his tie to do something I've never seen it do, look neat. Finally the Pastor composes himself realizing this was becoming a scene and then they awkwardly smiled for the camera.

It was all done with a little funny banter but the implications of this were obvious. I don't think this guy had a problem with how he wore his tie before that moment. I call foul.

I have to admit, I was the type to call them on the carpet when they'd use such sarcasm with me in church. At least they learned to leave me alone or cut through the crap and get to the point. Wink

I was once accused of playing "Honky Tonk" version of Mansion over the Hilltop for the offertory one Sunday evening and I seriously asked the director "Have you ever actually listened to honky tonk music?". He didn't want to answer that one. Rolleyes Big Grin

I was playing "Since Jesus Came into my Heart" during a Nursing Home ministry service and the leader told me to stop because it sounded "just like I was in a bar" ( It was syncopated, which, of course, means it came straight from the pit )

RE: Fundies and sarcasm
The interesting thing to me is that sarcasm delivered by the MoG is for rebuke and correction. Sarcasm returned is rooted in bitterness or a worldly attitude. I suppose I shouldn't be shocked by a double standard...

I always wanted to ask the followup question to that statement as "Really?! Which bar do you go to where they play this music there? I want to visit!". Rolleyes

My stepmother told me once that my piano playing sounds like brothel music. Nobody ever said anything about it to me at church though.
