Dating & Relationships
This is obviously a LOADED topic for Fundy's...
There is a HIGH pressure to have people date and get married, while having increased rules surrounding it like if one is alone for a minute in a car, sex will occur... Thoughts? |

BTW: I "campus dated" at WCBC for an entire semester... I was an outsider too... it was horrible.

RE: Dating & Relationships
Yeah... I believe it.
I hated campus dating... sitting two feet apart... ugh... Bad memories... And the idea that even married couples should show PDA! I am going to make out with my wife in public and in the house with my kids there. |

RE: Dating & Relationships
Hoo boy...
I wasn't allowed to date. Period. My mother had this notion that someday, out of the blue, this wonderful fundy man was going to ask for my hand and whisk me away to a happy marriage with puritain views on sex. One of the of the really cute boys at our church had a HUGE crush on me. He'd get all shy and stutter when he talked to me, and when we did the "go around and shake everyone's hand" thing, he'd make a beeline for me. I remember the Wed night he finally told me he liked me. It was so cute, he was stammering and blushing... I was elated. It was the first time in my 16 yrs that a guy had ever shown any interest in me. Well. I wrote to one of my friends about him. She was the daughter of our chiropractor and she was one of my best friends. I gave the letter to my mother before she left for her appointment so the doctor could give it to his daughter. But.... my mother opened the letter. She must have sensed something different about me (probably happiness) and grew suspicious because she had never done that before. I got this huge lecture on how it was wrong for him to like me. She accused me of having sex and asked multiple times if I had. (I wasn't even thinking about that) Then she made watch a video on how dating was wrong. What didn't make any sense was when the speaker said dating gives a little bit of your heart away to each person, and by the time you're ready to marry, you have no heart left. I was very upset and truamatized because for once in my life I felt happy, like I was living and I was being told it was wrong. My mother also caused a scene at church. She confronted the boy's mother and told him to keep her son away from me. She went to the pastor's wife and said that the boy was harrassing me, how she didn't want him around me and to demand that his mother keep him away from me. I was told never to talk to him, never be around him, and never look in his direction. This was really hard seeing as how it was a small church but my mother watched me and him like a hawk. It was a very upsetting situation and caused a lot of awkardness between a bunch of families at church. His mother was pretty nice about the whole thing even though I'm sure she was very offended, and she gave me a silver bracelet that Christmas. "Funny, you're the broken one, but I'm the only one who needed saving." |

I have heard this before. I am not sure where Fundies get this spooky idea; this sounds like something coming from Lord of the Rings or Final Fantasy. The Fellowship of Post-Fundamentalists |
