RE: patriarchal permission
reminds me of the time I told my MOG I decided to attend a local christian university not affiliated with Fundyism. The next Sunday he handed me a booklet to a well know Fundy school and said he set up an appointment with the school's President for the both of us. DAFUQAngry

I too know of specific examples where a wife TALKS submission but in reality is running things.

In one, a woman wanted to wear a head covering to show her submission to her husband. He didn't want her to. She did anyway. Wha????

In another, a home-schooling Gothard-following mother tried to break up the courtship of her 28 year old son even though her husband had approved of the bride-to-be. She demanded her son be obedient to her, apparantly never seeing that SHE was running the show in her home.

This kind of pretense annoys me. Either be or not be, do or not do, but don't claim to be and do the very opposite of how you're actually living.

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

PW, you do know of course that taking your advice would result in the end of fundamentalism - you have assaulted their core doctrine.

I for one will pray it happens.

RE: patriarchal permission
to think that one man thinks he has the right to say and do as he pleases and to blame it on god, is just so wrong. Whan a manogawd tells his congrgation all about his preaching trips abroad all over the country and that same douche bag gives his congrgation trouble for being gone 2 sundays in a row. But he will miss 2-3 in a row skiing out west or at his colleges founders place in hawaii. Just a small man in a small religion!

Happy Healthy & Heathen

Along with the line of patriarchal permissions, my bro told me after I got divorced that I had to put myself under the authority of our dad or the pastor. I looked at him and said, "I have my own place, I have my own car, I have my own job, and I pay all my own bills. I don't think so." Big Grin

Good for you!
