Leaving a Tip
This was referenced in the "Speaking of Baptists II" thread.

Any fundy tip stories? I've heard of some people leaving a tract but no money or leaving a tract w/money but being obnoxious customers, thereby ruining their "testimony".

I've heard from many waitstaff in this town that Sunday is the worst day for them because so many Christians don't tip. Worse, the most vocally "Christian" people (read: Fundies and other extreme cases) also complain the most about things and work their waitpeople to the bone for said lack of tip.

Two of the absolute worst tippers I know are ex-Fundies in name only. Left the IFB church but still kept the nasty attitude. One of them is one who leaves too small a tip then tries to witness to the waitress (and yes, it usually is a waitress who gets his attention). He has been asked not to return to a certain popular restaurant near our old church because of the way he pesters waitresses. The other is the Queen of High Maintenance, notorious for sending stuff back and complaining loudly. Some of the rest of us would try to make up for these two jokers by leaving higher tips and being extra-nice, but the damage has been done.

RE: Leaving a Tip
Apparently there some people of some religious denomination in the Lynchburg VA area who wouldn't tip but they would leave little tiny New Testaments on the table.

That is not right. Isn't it the case that some restaurants deliberately pay their waiters/waitresses less than the minimum wage because they expect them to receive good tips?

99% of all restaurants work like that. I'd rather leave a 20% tip for a wait staff person who is working his/her butt off, than give 10% of my income to a manogawd who's never worked a day in his life.

RE: Leaving a Tip
I always leave a $20, becaue the girls know how to take care of my family. My girl who cuts my hair always gets a $20 too.....for Christmas, I gave her a $50.

RE: Leaving a Tip
OK, this is a big one for me, because right now I am delivering pizza for a living. There are always exceptions, but it is a good bet when you go to the door and see a "Bless this House" or "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" plaque, you will not get a tip, or one so bad you would rather not get anything than be insulted. People who would never think of not giving their waitress at a restaurant a tip will not give anything to their delivery driver, who in many cases (thank the Lord not mine) is making considerably less than minimum wage for his time on the road AND who has to buy his own gas (that part is true for me).

I dare not fix with mete and bound The love and power of God. - J.G. Whittier

Good point. This is something I've wondered about...when someone orders online or over the phone and leaves a tip ahead of time using their credit card, are delivery drivers notified ahead of time so that they don't feel bad when they aren't tipped at the door? I always feel apologetic for not giving them something in their hand and feel like I should tell them that I already tipped them.

RE: Leaving a Tip
One thing that impressed me about my husband is that when we were dating, he was (and still is) very generous with his tips. Tipping doesn't just leave a good testimony; it can win a girl's heart too. Wink
