The future of Israel
"All Israel shall be saved." Future and collective salvation of a modern Israel? Another name for the NT church? Jews in the NT church?

Pour your insights.

RE: The future of Israel
Well, I'm not much of a Zionist so I don't think it's Political Israel....I'm not really sure though.

Is the church is spiritual Israel? (one way I've heard of explaining this)

Is it "peace be upon them, and upon the Israel of God," or "peace be upon them: even upon the Israel of God"? The Greek word "kai" could be translated either way.

Romans 11:25-27 Wrote:Lest you be wise in your own sight, I want you to understand this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written,
"The Deliverer will come from Zion,
he will banish ungodliness from Jacob";
"and this will be my covenant with them
when I take away their sins."

Romans 9-11 is all about God temporarily setting aside the Jewish nation and about how Gentiles have been grafted into God's people. This particular passage is about how that temporary setting aside will end. I believe this text means that when Christ comes at Armageddon to defeat the Antichrist and end his "final solution" for the Jews (Revelation is clear that the Antichrist will mercilessly kill Jews all over the world), the time of the Gentiles will be over and all the surviving Jews ("all Israel") will recognize Christ as the true Messiah and therefore be saved.

Yes, that's a dispensational position. Smile Somebody had to throw it out there.

Some people believe that this already happened shortly after Revelation was written, as the city of Jerusalem was decimated.

Actually, most scholars believe Revelation was written at least 20 years after the destruction of Jerusalem by Titus in A.D. 70. If you are referring to a subsequent event, then I apologize in advance for misinterpreting what you wrote.

I am certainly not dogmatic on any of this. I think when we get to Heaven and actually see some of this unfold, we will say, "Oh, so that's what that meant." None of us will have had it exactly right.

RE: The future of Israel
If I am remembering correctly, the explanation of "so then, all Israel shall be saved" is found in the preceeding chapters.
Thus the phrase "So then...." Wink
