RE: Must we?
I happened to notice a X-mas (wait, that is for another thread Big Grin ) themed commercial on TV last night. The 1st one I have seen this year. Yes it is early but I guess I am just glad that I didn't see it in October.

RE: Must we?
The Halloween stuff was already on display in AUGUST, so I'm not surprised that the Christmas stuff is out now. I don't like that we focus on it this early, since I kind of get sick of it by the time we actually get to Christmas, but I work in retail, so I'm surrounded by the stuff. I'm sure all the Valentine's stuff will be out on Dec. 26, too.

RE: Must we?
Working with my wife at a Hickory Farms stand in the mall a few years back really soured me on the whole retail aspect of Christmas. That and the fact that the mall Holiday sound track was the same 18 songs over and over and over and over...

I can barely stand to even walk through a mall any more. It just makes me tired to see the displays and think of how much work it takes to put them up.

RE: Must we?
Yes. Back to school stuff was out almost before June was over, and very little precious time is wasted after Christmas before throwing up the Valentine's stuff. It is greed, plain greed. And yes, retailers all around my area are throwing up Christmas stuff on Oct 31st. Target has begun displaying Christmas decorations in the middle of October for the last few years.
Think of a pack of hungry dogs on chains smelling a steak just out of reach. That's the relationship of retailers to holidays, especially Christmas. They'll take the first lame excuse to get off the chain.

If a man-o-god delivers a toe-stomping sermon and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

RE: Must we?
I got the christmas presents out of layby this week and have them wrapped in my bedroom! Big Grin

And before you all get ready to stone me Tongue the next month or two are going to be amazingly hectic for us. This is one thing I needed to get done early this year. And I really want my kids to have a good christmas this year. It'll be their second without their father, and the first with all my family in a very long time. It took me ages to work out the reason we never saw my family wasn't the distance or cost, but my husband's hatred for them.

I'm going to make up for it now Smile Hurray for Christmas!!! Hahahahaha!!

I do hope I've thoroughly disgusted you all Tongue It's after midnight here so I'm probably a bit silly now. nvm! Big Grin

Oh, and in regards to sales and stuff: here in Australia the school year starts at the end of January. So in June all the department stores have huge toy sales with layby until Christmas eve type deals. So I just put my presents on layby then. We don't have Thanksgiving, of course, and the shops are trying to push Halloween nowadays but it hasn't taken off. Some people are against it just because there's a push against the perceived Americanisation of Australian culture. Then we have our back to school sales straight after Christmas, and then it's Valentines and Easter. Then ready for the toy sales again Smile

LOL! This strange dialect you guys speak... type... whatever... is going to take some getting used to Smile I have heard layaway before, but it must have been on some tv show or something. It's never used here.

RE: Must we?
I was at a concert last night (with such SINFUL bands there as Rush of Fools, Hawk Nelson, Group 1 Crew... Jars of Clay and MercyMe too, I can't remember if all of their stuff is forbidden or not, though) and heard the first Christmas song of the season. X(

It was Jars of Clay's version of the Drummer Boy, though, and it's an awesome rendition of it, so I forgave them. For now, I'm just selectively editing my vision when I'm in stores. Christmas things? What Christmas things? I haven't seen a thing, I don't know what you're talking about. Also, that's not frost on the lawn, it's... condensation! Really, really heavy condensation. That's also white.
