Anybody been to a "Contemporary Service of Holy Communion"?

RE: Anybody been to a "Contemporary Service of Holy Communion"?
I love the Presby liturgy. I wish we said the Creed every Sunday, and I would like to see a question or two from the catechism make its way in on a regular basis.

I originally hated the more formal liturgy. Somewhere over the past couple months, it occurred to me that liturgy is the very definition of the old saying, "You get what you put into it." If you are just verbalizing because "this is the part where we talk together", you really miss out. It does become hollow or "frozen chosen", but I get so much more when I really participate. (Is this the equivalent of the fundy "think about the words as we sang tonite!")

In terms of liturgy, I've only attended 1 Episcopalian service, 1 Catholic funeral, and 2 Presby (PCA) services. I preferred the Presby liturgical style over all of these and even to some extent over nondenominational services. I enjoyed the mix of vibrant contemporary praise/worship and quietly contemplative liturgical style, the balance between formalized ritual and a more spontaneous/flexible message.

Granted, this particular Presby church is urban and contemporary with a relatively young congregation, so this may be informing my preference.

exactly! I would hear from my fundy friends about "dry liturgies" and "meaningless repetition" yet we did it do. How many times can one sing "I love you Lord" and it can get to be the same way?

You get exactly what you put in. Any of it can be repetition or any of it can be meaningful!
