New Oven
So, last weekend..mrs. bean was attempting to make some muffins..fail.
Burned on bottom, not done on top. Tried again. No luck. I told her the oven was probably shot. Tried to get a repairman to fix it. Too old. I looked online to see just how old this thing is. Ancient. Built prior to 1972. No parts available. I broke down and dropped almost 700 bucks on a new one. Guy delivered it and set it up this morning. My wife was SO happy. 24 cupcakes made. All perfect. We are now making homemade pizza--my d.d's 16th birthday..it's her fave. The pizza looks amazing. Funny what a new oven will do for cooking! |

RE: New Oven
Hahahaha! thanks! She loved it. I actually do most of the cooking and I love it too.
My name doesn't come from counting beans, though. I'm no good at that. I love to eat beans, I guess. I do actually inspect beans for my summer job. But the real reason behind my name is my affinity for a certain britcom called Mr. Bean...

RE: New Oven
I just got a new oven as well, about a week and a half ago. It was heavenly to bake a cake and have it come out right. My FiL is an appliance repair man and he declared the old one dead, after fixing the temp control for us several times.
We rent, though, so we didn't have to pay for ours!! There are a few advantages.

RE: New Oven
Amyrose, I was wondering how a new oven could make such a difference. But it does. I always figured an oven is an oven. Heat to 350, what possibly could be different? Not such if the heat is more uniform or what. It works great though!

RE: New Oven
@amyrose..congrats to you too! We cooks need an oven that gets the job done well.
@bean..so many factors go into an ovens performance. The heating element placement, the seal around the door, the coating on the inside etc... If you can't tell, you've tapped into my geek side. Amyrose already knows about my love of cooking because of the women's forum and she is a fellow cook! |

Not such if the heat is more uniform or what. It works great though! Among other things, the thermostat was dying on our old one, so the temperature would often be totally off. In March, my FiL checked it for us and it was overheating by more than 20 degrees--which explained why stuff was baking way too fast, and burning on the edges. He reset it three times over the next several months, but the last time it was off again in a few days. Then some other stuff broke and since it was over 25 years old, our landlady decided to just get a new one. Thank goodness. But the thermostat thing is one issue I guess older ovens get ---so then 350 is not 350 at all. And they are more likely to overheat than under heat. |
