Mainstream is too relative to be a useful qualifier. I suspect your views aren't terribly mainstream in Greenville. I don't suspect that people who have strongly held religious beliefs particularly care if they sound outrageous to the mainstream because mainstream isn't a standard of truth. I suspect that's why if people did perceive some things said here to be "outrageous" they wouldn't care (if they agreed with the statement) and then there's people like me who don't really care what is or is not outrageous just because I think I've heard it all at least once Smile
I don't know if outrageous is the word I want, or "unexpected"--but that sounds too Halloween... tales of the unexpected.

A better word than mainstream might be, mass culture. Meaning, if I randomly flipped the channels, 50 channels or so... would I hear it? No. (At least, I haven't, or not in depth.) Is what is being discussed "accessible" to everybody, the way they try to make the presidential debates widely accessible, for instance? I think this may be a better description of what I am getting at.

The question is, do you want to get along with people or not? (Rhetorical, I don't know if you are a social butterfly or what. But lots of people here talk about the difficulties of fitting in. I am weird, but I can easily disappear into a mob and blend in when necessary.) I am talking about the nuts of bolts of social blending, and capt solo's point that ex-fundies can suddenly back off of points when they think they are reprising fundy traits in themselves they don't like. I get the idea this is something you don't worry about too much? Wink

Off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush

A duel was once avoided when the challenged had the choice of weapons. His choice: two sausages, one tainted with cholera. The challenger decided to take part no further.

I pray for both the wit and wisdom to disarm myself and others, even over the cows I hold sacred. Sometimes, I can't help myself, though. it's a shame that strongly-held opinions tend to salt the earth.

The Ark was built by a lone amateur, and the Titanic was built by an impressive group of professionals.
