I found one of these in the underground here in Germany a few months back. I very was surprised to see it there, with German text, since you are rarely confronted with anything remotely fundy/evangelical in this part of the world. So I picked it up and brought it home for old times sake and a bit of a laugh. I remember these from when I was a kid. It is amazing that our church left such stuff out for the kids to read. Reading through it now, it is shocking how venomous it is.
Anyway I'll keep it, as living in a Catholic part of the world, and married to one, I need regular reminding of how evil Catholics are, and how the European Union is the Beast etc.

 it was at the post office. I took it; haven't read it yet. the title is something about happy hour; I'm assuming it's about how alcohol will ruin your life and send you to hell EVERY TIME. |

I don't see chick tracts. I used to see Million Dollar Bills around and I wanted to take them and scrunch them up, but I figured, God can use anything, so maybe it is what someone needs to read. I just don't like them because of the ministry associated with them and their utter legalism towards people after they have become believers.
Grace means that God does something for me; law means that I do something for God. God has certain holy demands which he places upon me: that is law. Now if law means that God requires something of me for their fulfillment, then deliverance means he no longer requires that from me, but himself provides it. |

I'd probably pick it up and leave it on one of my non-fundie-approved Christian friends' desks. Like maybe the catholic guy, or the universalist presbyterian. We like to joke about how we're all going to hell together.

Oh, I'd take it home and treasure it. When I was little, I thought they were so cool because they were SO scary. I hadn't seen one in ages until I saw some in a rack outside one of our local flea markets. I had to take one of every title, just for nostalgia purposes.

I bring them home so my Catholic husband can understand just how much of a liberal I am these days.
(Also, I kind of collect them. I guess it's like the black people who collect "Mammy" art. African-Americana? Whatever it's called.) |
