I've never posted on this forum before (despite numerous visits to the blog), but I wanted to share a blog post I recently made discussing why I no longer attend a fundamentalist church. Here is the link.

I think fundamentalism has been instrumental in destroying the faith of many here in America and possibly across the world. Yet they claim that violating one of their pet cultural taboos will destroy peoples' faith.
It's like I told someone several years ago. Someone who actually cares whether you follow such pet cultural taboos isn't the type of person to lose their faith, but the type to spurn you and separate from you. If a KJVO church starts using the NIV, KJVO Christians will just schlep on down to another KJVO church in town. If a church with conservative worship brings in modern music, people who have a problem with it will just find another conservative church.
Fundamentalism has about destroyed my faith. I keep seeking but I don't know where I will end up.

I found your blog recommended on fb yesterday and passed it on to several people myself. I am still staunchly committed to the fundamentals of the faith, but fundamentalists no longer would consider me one of them because of the very things you mentioned. Because of that kind of cultural baggage, it would be inaccurate to describe myself as a fundamentalist, although even saying I'm a conservative evangelical is scary for me because "evangelical" was practically a curse-word in my fundamentalist circles (although not as bad as "ecumenical"!)

I appreciate your tone, your use of Scripture, and your thoroughness.

It's been so amazing to me to discover the grace of Jesus and to rejoice in His freedom, even though people that I love have rejected and maligned me for it. I wish they could consider your points reasonably.

I would encourage you not to lose heart over what you've experienced in fundamental churches. When my wife and I finally chose to leave our IFB church that we had been attending for some years, we went on a bit of a non-fundamentalist church tour that lasted almost a year. We visited multiple evangelical churches from all sorts of denominations and came away marveling how God is doing such great things in many diverse congregations in our country.

Since then, we started attending a Sovereign Grace church. I'm not sure what exactly you're looking for in a church, but you might start by checking out what, if any, Sovereign Grace churches are nearby as they are all very sound in doctrine: http://www.sovereigngraceministries.org/...tates.aspx.

Another helpful resource for finding churches that seek to be biblical is Nine Marks: http://www.9marks.org/churchsearch/.

Thank you (and the others who commented on here) for the kind words and support. I am really overwhelmed by the positive feedback I've gotten from this simple blog post - from both fundamentalists and non-fundamentalists alike.

It's sad that people have rejected you for following God's Word, but it's not surprising since Christ told us that kind of thing would happen in this world. It's just a shame when it comes from other professing Christians. By showing them love in return, you will heap burning coals on their heads.
