I didn't know where to ask this, and I'm sure its already been discussed somewhere, but does anybody have any info on Pensacola receiving accreditation? Do you know what type it is?
Basically that's all I'm hearing from my church now, as far as college news. Therefore, my parents are too. My dad brought it up in the car the other day, even though i told both my parents I am dead set on not going there. And since they don't seem to want to listen to me when i talk about the more important things, like Horton's philosophy and the like, the accreditation thing is pretty much all I have. Thank you for reading |

RE: Pensacola Accreditation
I think they are going for TRACS.
TRACS will qualify you for Federal student loans (for now, although the gubmit is reconsidering it). However, it will keep you out of a lot of graduate and especially Ph.D. programs down the road. It can also hurt you in a job search. I would never recommend that any young person preparing for life go to an unaccredited college. |

RE: Pensacola Accreditation
Whatever you do, don't go!! I went to BJU for 2 years which is also unaccredited, and when I decided to leave that nuthouse and transfer, my new school took NONE of my credits. NONE. I had to start with basic college courses all over again. It was like literally throwing away thousands of dollars.

RE: Pensacola Accreditation
TRACS is what PCC and BJU have/are getting.
its a national accrediting body. When schools or jobs say they require "an accredited degree" they mean regional accreditation - the kind that other fundy schools have actually gotten and proven that they have high quality academics. (Clearwater, Maranatha, and Faith in Ankeny I think too.) TRACS is not only NOT regional accreditation, it seems highly inbred, in that those schools are part of setting it up. It is not accurate or honest for them to say its "the same" as being accredited by Southern association of Colleges and Schools which would cover both S.C. and Fla. Yeah, this is pretty pathetic...I also heard a rumor that to get TRACS accreditation a school has to teach "young earth creationism" including "6 literal 24 hour days". I do hope that is incorrect, but it wouldn't surprise me a bit. |

Come on, it's a SCHOOL. School is for LEARNING. Learning EVERYTHING you're interested in. That's another reason I left BJU. I was afraid they were teaching me wrong things just because anther view might have been considered "wrong". "Funny, you're the broken one, but I'm the only one who needed saving." |

RE: Pensacola Accreditation
OK being Australian this whole national accreditation vs regional accreditation thing is a bit weird. Either you're accredited or not, right? lol...
Anyway, I saw someone around here post that Abeka was regionally accredited and they teach young earth creationism, and the whole 'regional accreditation forces you to teach evolution' thing was just a straw man argument. That said, I went to a public high school and a public university here. I didn't study sciences in university but I did major in history so evolution was covered. It didn't make me stop believing in creation. It's what I believe, and honestly I think that evolution seems foolish. Doesn't worry me if anyone else wants to believe it, doesn't worry me if someone else wants to try and teach it to me. The more I hear about it, the more foolish it seems. |

Elementary and High school textbooks are not "accredited" (in the U.S., at least); they are approved by various state education offices. I highly doubt Beka textbooks are on any state's approved list, primarily because Beka's constituency would stop buying them if they were. But it is true that you can be regionally accredited and teach young-earth creationism. I know from personal experience that Maranatha does. RE: Pensacola Accreditation
I have two words for you, my friend. STATE COLLEGE!!!! go there. It'll cost less (short and long term), and you know you won't have a problem getting into grad school.
