RE: Theme Songs
Paul, you were right. It was the second one.

For those nearing the end of their time in Fundamentalism I submit this...We're Not Gona Take It - Twisted Sister. Drill Sergeant dad at the beginning seems fitting too.

boymom: What in the thelogical region of eternal punishment is a daddy-daughter ball?

amyrose5:No one is in charge around here. Except maybe the rabbit. He thinks he is. But we do keep him in a cage, so that limits his real control.

He was quoting/paying homage to this one, if you didn't know.

This is the end of "Tommy"-- and its is *about* leaving a religious cult/leader. The followers finally turn against Tommy and he is left alone.

If the word "rape" bothers you, skip it.

Finally, Tommy looks to God alone for his salvation, instead of rules, pinball and personal cults. ("Listening to you")

Listening to you
I get the music
Gazing at you
I get the heat
Following you
I climb the mountain
I get excitment at your feet
Right behind you
I see the millions
On you
I see the glory
From you
I get opinions
From you
I get the story

For years, this was the only account of faith that made any sense to me. Heart

((Daisy sobs at the end of Tommy, admits old hippie status))

And just listen to those DRUMS willya? Cool Greatest ever in the history of the world, who wants to argue the point? ExclamationExclamation

Off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush

RE: Theme Songs
Sorry I don't know how to post a video.Blush Here's a link though...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-RkhY6JWDY

Derek Webb's song, A New Law. This was my personal anthem as we were on our way out.

The lyrics if you don't want to follow the link...
don’t teach me about politics and government
just tell me who to vote for
don’t teach me about truth and beauty
just label my music
don’t teach me how to live like a free man
just give me a new law

i don’t wanna know if the answers aren’t easy
so just bring it down from the mountain to me
i want a new law
i want a new law
gimme that new law

don’t teach me about moderation and liberty
i prefer a shot of grape juice
don’t teach me about loving my enemies
don’t teach me how to listen to the Spirit
just give me a new law

what’s the use in trading a law you can never keep
for one you can that cannot get you anything
do not be afraid
do not be afraid
do not be afraid

The way it always was, is no longer good enough. You make me want to be brave. - Nichole Nordeman

Staying with the "Tommy" theme....
Here is the theme song for parents who put their children at risk because of a faulty view of forgiveness

"do you think its alright, for him to stay with Uncle Ernie?" "I think its alright, he said he was sorry last time he felt up a little kid...Besides, his record is clean cause the church covered it up so well." [those lyrics are on side 2 of the special fundy edition vinyl]

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side"

RE: Theme Songs
It needed to be resurrected...the chorus on this song is the theme song for fundy christian school dress codes

"your trouser cuffs are dirty,
and your shoes are laced up wrong
you'd better take off your homburg,
cause your overcoat is too long"

And this one describes what many of us are looking for post-fundamentalism

I wanna have friends That I can trust
That love me for the man I've become
Not the man that I was
And I wanna have friends
That let me be
All alone when being alone is all that I need
I wanna fit in To the perfect space
Feel natural and safe In a volatile place
And I wanna grow old Without the pain
Give my body back to the earth And not complain

[Chorus]Will you understand When I am too old of a man And will you forget When we have paid our debt Who did we borrow from, Who did we borrow from?

Ok, part two Now clear the house
The party's over Take the shouting and the people Get out!
I have some business and a promise
That I have to hold to I do not care what you assume
Or what the people tell you

I wanna have pride Like my mother has
And not like the kind in the bible that turns you bad
I wanna have friends That I can trust
That love me for the man I've become Not the man that I was

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side"

RE: Theme Songs
I just heard this today:

"Are we too outspoken, loud, and messing up the comfortable?
Well we've been messed up also.

But how can we be silent
When a fire burns inside us?
'Cause we're a million strong and getting stronger still.
They'll remember we were here!
With a million voices breaking silence still,
They'll remember we were here.

We were made to start the riot, take on the impossible
And we will slay the giants!
We are done with fake religion, fighting now to find the movement,
Won't stop till we find it!"

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

This pretty much sums up the IFB.
