Blankets
[Image: blankets4.jpg]... is an amazing graphic novel that many of you here would love.

http://www.amazon.com/Blankets-Craig-Tho...1891830430

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blankets_(comics)

"Craig is the main character, who is depicted from childhood to a young adulthood. Craig struggles with his Christianity, and with his belief that the Christianity that he has been surrounded with his whole life is not what he believes it should be. At a Baptist Christian winter camp he meets a girl from a similar background named Raina who becomes his first love."

A fabulously-sincere narrative, wonderful art, and a great love story make this simple comic/graphic novel something that largely defies description.

Great great stuff. Highly recommended.

(Has anyone else read it?)

Off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush

So glad you liked it! I think Thompson is just a genius, straight up. I love the art work so much, too.

I gave this to a young friend leaving BJU and she went crazy, told everybody, and notably, would *not* give my book back! Big Grin I knew it must really strike a nerve, so I am glad I was right!

Everybody go read it! Cool

RE: Blankets
Hurray! Blankets arrived today, didn't expect it to be quite so big 400+ pages . . . and I've already read it cover to cover. Wow, amazing art work-check, scarily accurate portrayal of how fundamental/ultra conservative evangelical doctrines are interpreted by kids-check, a bittersweet love/coming of age story-check, the pain and loss at discovering how messed up the religion you where taught is-check, the struggle and eventual peace that comes from finding your own path-check. Again, seriously amazing art work. So many little details that rang true to my own fundy childhood/young adult experiences.

If anyone else would like to read it send me a PM, seriously, it's that good (and media mail is fairly inexpensive).
