Conversations with Fundies
I'm sure there are similar threads on here somewhere, but I don't feel like looking.

Anyway, I was visiting with some fundy relatives today and the topic of possible presidential candidates came up. Speaking of one of them, my relative said, "He's not even a true Christian! He's a Methodist or Lutheran or something like that." Rolleyes

Michele Bachmann is Lutheran and they love her. My governor was raised SIKH and they are ready to crown her QUEEN.

Where's that barf smiley again? Dodgy

Off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush

Wait! I'm a Lutheran! Am I a fake Christian?
Wow.
Oh yeah, I've heard this one before. A guy in our church (same one who I thought was a good friend but turns out I was his mission project) talked endlessly about "are we here as Christians or are we just playing church?" Playing church?
I have lots of fun things to do with my life other than play church. I can assure you I am not playing church. When I come, I am trying to get closer to God and see what He has in mind for my life.

Not a chance! Smile GREAT Christians! I loved Lutheran Vacation Bible school the best! I learned the Bible best from Lutherans. And I liked that they didn't YELL! Smile

I visited all of em at least once as a kid... my best friend was Lutheran so I got to go a lot to her VBS! It was so much fun!

RE: Conversations with Fundies
Smile Thanks, Daisy!! I miss my Lutheran church... Sad
I have had fellow church members also complain about the rituals and "mindless prayer repeats" in the Lutheran church, and wonder why kids go to confirmation. On the pulpit as lay leader talking about youth retreats, I remembered how confirmation and VBS planted seeds of faith that sometimes take YEARS to grow. But so do trees. Yeah, I think I got more out of my confirmation class than blind rote memorization of verses in an awana program. Just sayin.
Our pastor ROCKED. He was a young guy with a cool wife. Took us skiing. Played tackle football and wrestled with the boys who thought we were tough after class. Best pastor we had as a kid. Taught us more about life than any guy in a big fancy suit pounding his fist waiting for someone to say AMEN!!
