So, they're saying that God lives in a cave?

From stuff online it seems obvious that this sermon was created based on pre-Hubble observations. It's not that large or empty by any means. The sermon could be post-Hubble but I don't think the average person realizes that those photos are false color so it's easier to see the elements and other objects that are beyond the visible spectrum.

The Orion Nebula can fit inside this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carina_Nebula

Your scientific facts are no match for the fundy sermon illustration. Tongue

Flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure heaven won't be in a supernova remnant.

Let's just assume that were so. Okay. Then, given the right technology, some day, mankind could probably go there, so then what happens when you die? I mean, wouldn't that sort of take away the whole surprise of it all?

People want real evidence to support their beliefs, but that's not what faith is.
Oh they've got a tall tale for that one also! When I was little they played a tape from Art Bell called "The Sounds Of Hell" which they hoped would scare us to death. As a kid for some reason I found the tape funny and was actually laughing out loud while everyone else was looking at me like I was insane! I thought for sure it sounded fake but they all gave me VERY sinister looks. Rolleyes

Interestingly enough there has NEVER been another tape like that one since. Huh...wonder why that is? Dodgy

I never heard the Bell tape of Hell - I did hear the bizarro "guy buzzes Area 51 in a Cessna and is shot down" call, which was hilariously fake. Hopefully the Hell tape was just a cheesy.

However, all this talk of Hell in the center of the Earth reminds me of that old urban legend of the Russians drilling to the center of the planet and hearing all the screams and moans of the Damned. I never heard the original story, just second-hand schoolyard rumors.....which the original tellers had heard from Christian talk radio!

Not only that, it's a nebula. Not exactly solid matter which could contain a city. Using the word "cave" is highly misleading, but then, that's unsurprising, really.

Forget the fear/it's just a crutch/that tries to hold you back/and turn your dreams to dust.
