You did the right thing, JessB. You can give people information, but what they choose to do with it is on them.

I would hope that if it was their child who had been molested that they might feel differently about taking a minute or two to try to help find justice.

But I know that with some in fundamentalism that even blood relationships aren't enough to motivate a stand against the establishment.

Sadly...in my experience, this is true.

Ditto that. In my former church two teenage sisters were told they had to have sex with "Preacher" because he was God's man and they had to do what he told them to. Angry

There was no discussion of adultery, pre-marital sex, statutory RAPE, infidelity, lying, cheating, stealing or anything else. Just, you have to because he wants you to. Angry

You know, the worst of it is: the call went out for ANY information: Good, bad or indifferent.

This case merits investigation because the two cases that have come forward were from different cities, different churches and at least ten years apart.

HOWEVER, the detective needs to hear from all sides. It is the Truth we are after, not trying to ruin someone's reputation for no apparent reason.

If you know Reverend Butler, and have solid reasons to doubt the accusations against him, by all means, come forward.

Charges were never filed because the girls were scared when they were young. When they matured enough to make the decision on their own, the statute of limitations had already expired.

So, now there are some who see to it that whatever ministry he attempts to get into is informed of his many disqualifications.

I think that was just a clarification that the call was open. It doesn't matter whether you think he's a person capable of doing it or not. If you have information about his personality and background, come forward. Therefore, people who are reacting negatively to the call itself are being foolish. Mind you, they're probably very upset that there is word getting out that one of their own is in trouble, they'd probably prefer that even the allegations remained a secret.
