A teaser:
"So angels are all round about us. And they are surpassingly concerned about our lives. Our eyes are blinded! We think that the other world, the unseen world and spirit beings are far, far away, but that is not true. And how angels do listen when a woman kneels to pray! For the sake of angels who always are near, Christian women should especially be careful to have long hair--"because of the angels," the Scripture says.
How are angels concerned about a woman's hair? I think that not only would angels be grieved by this mark of rebellion against husband or father and against God, but angels would be tempted, likewise, to rebel."
-John R. Rice

RE: Bobbed Hair
Dear Don,

I thought you liked us?!? Smile

The one sentence that made me shudder was "A MAN is made in the image of God.". "On the other hand, a WOMAN is not made so much in the image of God, but in the image and as a mate to man". What?????

**** Gen 1:27 " So God created man in his own image; in the image of God he created him, MALE and FEMALE he created THEM." *****

If JRR does not even understand Biblical pronouns and their use, then theres no basis for a conversation.

The second thing that makes no sense is where he talks about head coverings. A mans head covering IS his hair but that doesn't apply to women?

Where is the scripture that teaches "men to love their wives even as Christ loved the church and GAVE Himself for it".
Jesus, the KING of heaven was sent from glory, yet became the servant of us all.

These men did not read the Bible to learn to love and obey God, they read the Bible to learn to judge which is usurping authority they never had.

WTH? was my first thought. Seriously? I thought the numbers of angels were cut by a third when Lucifer did his thing, not by the style of a woman's hair.

RE: Bobbed Hair
mmmkay, I had to go Google John R. Rice to find out why he would be using a term like "bobbed hair" but now I see that he's from that era. I could totally see a current preacher using an old school term like that.

RE: Bobbed Hair
If angels get tempted watching us, I think that bobbed hair would be the least of their temptations.

Huh?

I Cor 11:14 - "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?"

At least that would be my guess as to where this idea would come from. Long hair and hats are interchangeable, you know.

Remember this drivel is from one of the god-fathers of the Indepedent, Fundamental, Baptist movement. Men like JRR were the ones who laid the foundation for the IFB that we know and loathe so much today.

I didn't know there was a 12th Commandment stating "Thou shalt not offend angels".

"Funny, you're the broken one, but I'm the only one who needed saving."
