I tried being on the pill but I had one minor problem. My husband smokes and the 2nd hand smoke combined with the pill to make my blood pressure go up. Not good. Now we use condoms, easier to remember.

Some people get cool hallucinations that tell them to kill people. Mine just try to get me into trouble.

RE: Fundies and Birth control
I have 3, but my parents aren't fundies. Only mum is a Christian.

I remember getting into all kinds of stupid debates about this and abortion as well. Yeah, abortion is bad, but have you ever heard fundies oppose it to the literal death of themselves and their child? It goes like this - "I trust God so much that even if the doctor told me I was going to die giving birth, I would trust God and ignore the doctor, even if I died" (this is also due to Fundies dislike of modern medicine)

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; - Titus 2:11-12

I remember that discussion a while back. Tongue

RE: Fundies and Birth control
I'm one of eight and my parents did believe and practice birth control. They both came from large families and wanted a lot of kids. They planned every one of us. Smile

It really was a great thing to have so many siblings and family reunions now are never boring. I wouldn't trade it for the world. That being said, none of my siblings have more than four kids -- I have none.

RE: Fundies and Birth control
I was on the pill twice: once when single (was really irregular and it helped even them out) and before I got married (to get adjusted) but the side effects weren't worth it so I quit. Only later we found out some fundies consider them to be "potentially" abortive; whether that's true or not, we didn't want to risk it either. Currently we use NFP and it works well for us so far.

RE: Fundies and Birth control
We had a moochinary family come to our church with about 15 kids (Not exaggerating.) They showed slides of everything--including 2 slides of their midwife. My wife said someone should put a condom in the offering plate.

I can just imagine the conversation amongst the deacons while counting the offering.

RE: Fundies and Birth control
I'm the oldest of ten. I like them all now, but it was miserable growing up since we didn't have much money and were all homeschooled and went to a tiny fundy church. It was so isolated.

As a result I don't want my own kids. Our family situation took all the biological urges out of me. =P

I hope you find (well, make that found) a like-minded husband; I can't imagine many worse things that a husband who wants a large family and a wife that doesn't want kinds, or a husband that doesn't want any kinds and a wife that's desperate for children.

RE: Fundies and Birth control
I am the youngest of 5 kids--2 boys, 3 girls. Between the 5 of us, we have given our parents 15 grandchildren (including 3 who are adopted.)

I know my parents used birth control, because I recall my mom telling me at one point that I was the result of a failed birth control method. (EW!!!)

Personally, I am a firm believer in birth control in spite of a few years on the infertility roller coaster. I know that if God truly wanted me to become pregnant, nothing I do will stop that. However, I also believe that God has enabled medical technology to assist in making better judgements for the size of our family. I have 3 children that I love more than words and I am blessed to have them, but I don't feel the least bit compelled to add more--and my husband also agrees!!

The way it always was, is no longer good enough. You make me want to be brave. - Nichole Nordeman
