Humm .... this seems like a super fun game and i don't know HOW this thread petered out. so i'll give it a shot and maybe see if Darrell could move it to the "insane chat" (lol typo, but not so far off) sub forum.

But the Bible says, "Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them?" Am I not keeping the injunction of "not forsaking the assembling" whenever I am with another believer?
"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

So we better see you there for Thursday night visitation, Saturday morning church clean up and Friday night choir practice. If you want to meet with other Christians, that’s fine. But don’t you dare replace that with being in church, bless gid. And you best be meeting with other meek, submissive women, not these Jezebel’s on SFL. And by the way, looking at vs 26, we see it’s sin if you aren’t in church. 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth Shoes have come a long way from their humble beginnings as simple leather moccasins. RE: Game: Devil's Advocate!
But how can I be IN church when the people are the church? Where is the building sanctified as the only place Christians can meet? In Acts, the believers met daily and went from house to house.
I would disagree with being in the church every time the doors are open - which means Sunday school, Sunday morning worship, Sunday evening service, Wednesday prayer meeting, Thursday visitation, Friday choir practice, and Saturday cleaning time (as well as the Tuesday night women's Bible study), because it actually keeps Christians so busy doing "churchy" things that we are not actually obeying the clear commands of Scripture - like teaching Biblical principles to your children. How can you teach your kids when you're at church that many times during the week? I also disagree that the good works we are to be doing are met in simply handing out tracts, cleaning the church building, and practicing with the choir. While those are good things, they again often keep us so busy that we fail to actually help the needy as Matthew 25 describes. (See? We didn't need a special debate forum? We already had a thread for it; we'd just forgotten about it!) "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

In Acts, the believers met daily and went from house to house. They also attempted to set up a socialist system, look where that got them (see: Annanias’ and Saphira’s dead bodies being dragged out by the young men). The early church isn’t to our example for everything ’PW’ Wrote:because it actually keeps Christians so busy doing "churchy" things that we are not actually obeying the clear commands of Scripture - like teaching Biblical principles to your children. How can you teach your kids when you're at church that many times during the week? You need to be busy- busy about your Father’s business. “Idle hands are the Devil’s workshop.” Also, Matthew 19:29 “And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.” You need to forsake your children if you really want eternal life. ’PW’ Wrote:While those are good things, they again often keep us so busy that we fail to actually help the needy as Matthew 25 describes. Mark 14:7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. This doesn’t look like a command to me. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,” this is a command that you and I need to follow. Ahhhhhhhh! (That's me running and screaming!) Shoes knows his coolaid well! He's got the right fundy comeback each time.
There's too much to say to all those incredible replies, but I think I'll simply say that I don't forsake the assembly. I'm there Sunday morning. There is no specific number of times mandated in Scripture. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

RE: Game: Devil's Advocate!
Now you're treading on dangerous ground. The passage from Matthew 18 is talking about forgiving a brother, not going to church, and you've added in words to Scripture which Revelations tells us we are not to do.
"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |
